quick question... thermostat

Here goes: I have flushed the radiator, cheked the thermostat. I used grey silicone gasket when putting back the thermostat housing but still managed to get a small leak. So the quiestion : - Is there a gasket that is supposed to be used?

I think you can get a gasket for the water pump, try MJP in our traders section.

I used blue liquid gasket when I did mine and haven't had a problem. Did you run a decent sized bead all the way around the pump, including the bolt holes?

I don't think there is a gasket - just use a good sealant when reassembling it mate.....

.....that's how Jeff did my waterpump and thermostat back in August! I was surprised there were no gaskets; although Jeff says Nissan did use them on the USA spec cars..!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

always a good idea to lightly rub the face on some sanding paper on a perfectly flat surface...gives the mating surface some "grab" for the jointing compound too

Good idea Bri - and the scoring will also give the sealant somewhere to be compacted into when the bolts are tightened!!

the OEM water pump has a channel for the sealant, also need to go between the bolt holes inner pump section, the other thing is, to use enough to seal, but not enough to break free and end up clogging the thermostat / radiator.

are you sure the water pump is leaking and not the two rubber couplers either side of the top pipe?

Most of the water pumps ive changed have been sealed using a orange sealent.
