This has always annoyed me, time for an answer.

In the olden days we had square tvs, when i watched a film and had the black bars at the top and bottom i thought this was because films where filmed in widescreen?

So now widescreen comes out and i watch a film, some fit, some have a thin black bar and some ive watched are about half the size of the tv, kind of pointless having a 42" screen. Why?

Whats the point of getting a frameless tv when you will still get a frame on top and bottom, why cant they make a tv thats the right shape?

Yeah, it's really annoying. I don't know why they didn't make widescreen HD the same as the cinema resolution when it first came out.....

Well you can get ultra widescreen TV's like this one: http://www.philips.co.uk/c/cinema-21-9/30849/cat/ :whistling:

The problem is cinema screens are still shot wider than a "conventional" widescreen TV (which is a 16:9 aspect ratio)

the ultra widescreen is 21:9 the same as films in a cinema

As an added problem most TV recordings is now filmed in the 16:9 aspect ratio so I guess that unless you are watching a true 21:9 aspect film you will then have black bars down the side when you are watching top gear etc! (or you would have to stretch it or zoom it)

I agree - I hate this too.....

.....and I have moaned about it before on here as well.....:2guns:

Richard:winkiss:

yep me too...its like watching the tv through the letterbox:censored:
