Front speaker housing

Afternoon chaps

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the drivers side front speaker was hanging out of the door. A few days later it fell out :/

Never really bothered me as my Zed was in the garage getting fixed but now I have it back its annoying me!

Basically, the previous owner, instead of replacing the stock speakers with ones of the same size, has cut holes out of the door to fit some bigger ones in. They were only screwed in loosely and it just looks a mess.

The speaker now wont screw back in as its just too loose, falls straight back out. How would it be best for me to get it back in? Do I need to get hold of some sort of housing or will there be an easier way?

Can post pictures if you need them.

Cheers

Alex

Hi Mate,

I have some Bose front speaker boxes for sale that have been widened to take 6-6.5 inch speakers and I'm coming up to Jeffs at Zworld next weekend if you are interested.

Drop me a pm if interested looking for £25 or so.

I'm pretty sure that the holes that have been cut in the door are for 6x9s

Have you got any pictures?

The stock speakers are fixed to the door with a factory plate, its likely you are after the plate or an unabused door card. I take it the grill is missing? maybe a grill will cover the hole made for the 6x9 and you can mount a speaker back in the original housing.

The stock speakers are not a common size at 6 inches (just under 155mm) in diameter - and nowadays the most common aftermarket replacements are 6.5 inches. I guess that's why yours have been butchered mate.....

....I hunted down a set of 6 inchers myself - they bolted straight into the metal housings in the door itself. But from memory, it did not look like the housings would have come off, so I'm not sure you can just get a pair. Your best bet might be the Bose housings Andy is selling - provided you can fix them to the door frame!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Problem is, there isnt really any housing left - its just a massive hole in the door!!!

It'll be best for me to get some pictures tomorrow night and post them, will be easiest if you see what I mean

Pics below:

The first picture, the one that looks "normal" are of the speaker in the passenger door. This one seems to be ok and hasnt fallen out, even though the door obviously still has a massive hole cut in it. The others are of the drivers door and the said hole, just to show the rough size and what it looks like etc.

So, with this in mind, what do people reckon would be the best solution? As it happens I'll probably be getting some new speakers at some point anyway so don't worry too much about the size if I need some new housing etc...

You can put some slats of wood behind the panel to screw the speaker to, its seems the previous owner tried to screw it directly to the cardboard panel.

Had that problem with mine. I got some flat screw-in washers from Halfords that should hold it back on

sorry for the bad pic but my normal camera isn't working at the moment and I can't find a link on the Halfords website

So basically, the nuts in that link can just go on one side and the screws will just go into them and hold it in place?

Forgive the ridiculous post must make me sound like a right idiot, just been a very long Monday and I'm incredibly tired!!!

Your basically after a clamping effect to hold the speaker onto the card, you wont be screwing to the metal on the door.

ah ok cool, thanks guys. Seems like it would be easier like that then making a grill or some sort of speaker boxes/housing...

I'll try get some of these and see how they go...
