I want to get a set of metric metric combination spanners. I would really like a set that the open end doesn't flare open over stiff nuts and round them off as the cheap set i've been using does. Any suggestions? Im not really in the market for Snap On stuff, as great as it is.

Also..... What are your opinions on 6 and 12 point closed ends on spanners? 6 points grip better but with there being less positions available for it to slide on does this sometimes cause grief in tight situations?

Cheers

The Halfords Professional ones are pretty good for the money.

Agreed Ive destroyed 4 zeds now with my Halfords tool kit best £100 i ever spent, they also come with a lifetime warranty so if break a spanner (not that you ever will) but just take it back for an instant replacement.

Thanks guys, unanimous votes there makes it easier!

Does anyone have an opinion on the 6 or 12 point question?

I would go 6 point mate, you can get a good fit without worriying about them slipping or rounding the bolts

Halfords Pro for me too :) And I didn't know about the life time warranty!! looks like a trip to Halfords for my replacement :D

i have a set of snap on spanners and sockets ... will say 6 point ones are the ones to have ... Muilty points are good to have too

but like these guys have said Halford tools are nice too .. got my self a set of Pro/advanced Ratchet spanners ... one of the best tools i have had ..

love'em and the quality is all most like snap on

I've got snap on, blue point and draper these are all great not snapped any of them yet, I find draper stuff good and not expensive either, great if your on a budget

halfords professional range, ive got the ratchet spanners, best tools ive ever purchased for the 300zx, and would happily buy more, ive put them under some harsh punishment as well with the old 20 year old bolts and they haven't failed me yet.

i got some halfords pro ratchet spanners and they are very good, also gaurenteed for life if not abused ie hitting them with a hammer

Mega helpful guys thanks a million! I just saw those Mark, bloody bargain considering they have a lifetime warranty as well. Bought a set of 4 Bluepoint adjustable grips ranging from 5-16" and a couple of pairs of mole grips recently, never realised just how useful grips were!

I use Halfords pro too but haven't had any trouble with machine mart Clarke branded stuff either.

Snap-on are over priced imho even though i have them, prefare to use my MAC tools from 7mm-16mm and any larger up to say 32mm i pull out the big guns and put my knuckels in the good care of King Dick tools which ive owned for years and they are as sharp as the day they were bought.Ive got a few Falcom bits which are very good quality but they always go overboard on the grip design of the plyiers..vicegrips ect and just dont feel right to use.

If you sign up for their email newsletter then you'll get invites to the VAT free days they do. Can save a lot of money that way :)

If you can get a trade card for Halfords you can get some good discounts of the tools, oil, swarfega, wd etc...

I got chatting to the manager about his Landrover and he supplied me a trade card.. Things like bulbs etc are very cheap on trade...

Cheers Gary. Yeah my mate has a trade card, I looked into getting one myself but they wanted to see payslips from a garage or certificates. Both for forgeable I guess:whistling:

Did you guys get the fixed or swivel head ratchet sets?

I bought myself a set of swivel-headed ratchet spanners (not Halfords brand) and find them very useful for nuts/bolts that are maybe a wee bit awkward to get to. :smash:

Yeah I was just weighing up 9 swivel or 12 fixed sets, good discount on both. Was worried the swivel heads could actually be a hindrance even though I can see times they would be advantageous

the swivel ones halfords pro are half price the now

Can't find them, do you have a link?
