Does my clutch need changing?

Pulling off hard in 1st gear its fine, 2nd gear not noticed anything, but in 3rd I get to about 4000-5000 revs then its shoots up an extra 500-750 revs then slowly goes back down to where it was then carries on accelerating.

Iain said it sounds like its something on the clutch that is causing the slip. I agree but its happens every time I do it. I would have thought that the thing that is causing it to slip would burn off with the heat and friciton.

What you think? Could my clutch need bleeding, or adjusting? Or is it looking like a new clutch?

Sounds like it's slipping at maximum torque to me. It may need adjusting (if you're lucky) but it's generally the early signs of a new friction plate required.

Is this due to the massive HP increase I have wink.gif

Just done the adjustment at the pedal for my mates car. I only adjusted it 2 turns (see tt net tech) and its cured it, it was slipping quite badly. As Andy says the friction plate may be wearing thin but adjusting it may buy you a bit more time.

I always thought the way to test for a slipping clutch is to put it in top gear and give it a bit of power. Should make it slip.

Yeah but 3000-4000 revs where its slipping is over 80mph in 5th wink.gif

well then take it from me (its happened often enough lol) your clutch is on its way out. And it wont last much longer iether.

once they go it goes period.
