Replacement Front Seats

I have spoken to seat suppliers about gettign some seats for the front (e.g. Cobra, Recaro, Corbeau, Momo and Sparco) but none of them seem to make a seat frame for the Z32 just say the universal frame will work ok. Has anyone fitted aftermarket front seats into their car? I remember at the Solihull meet one car had some seats fitted but I can't remember what sort they were.

yeah those were momos, what he did was just fit that seat to the runners already on the seat. dead easy really, but youll have to fiddle around.

you can get any seat to fit at the end of the day using the stock subframe, although this sort of loses the point if your going for weight saving ect?

Umm I suppose an option is to keep my passenger seat frame and getting another one (secondhand) for the drivers side? Then fitting some nice seats to them, as long as it is possible. I suppose I could buy a seat and try it out, nothing ventured nothing gained..

I contacted Evolution in Southend John. I want a set of Konigs and Ibrar off the MkIVSupra site was kind enough to point me in the right direction after putting a set in his Soup.

Konig do a subframe for our cars and an unbelievable amount of customisations for the seats aswell. Options include electric, heated, different colour options, leather etc. etc.

I had the info sent through in the post from Jason at Evo I think his name was?!?!?!

Very helpful and this is the way I wanna go eventually. Money, money, money etc. LOL biggrin.gif

Excellent. Have you got a telephone number or web address for them? Seemingly Recaro do frames for the 300 too, but the Konig SP5000 seats are much nicer. 2 seats, retrim rear bench seat and all interior panels to match - mucho dunero me thinks.

John, number is 01268 759600 and ask for Jason Hill. Evolution Performance Ltd and they are in Benfleet, Essex. wink.gif

Ask him if he'll do us discount if you and me order at the same time and let me know how you get on. He was keen for more of us to buy but not that many guys were interesting in replacing the lard arse leather last time I mentioned it!

God knows why, remove the fat boy leather and take 2 seconds off the 0-60 and another 10mph on the top end also would add about 75 bhp!!! ROFL biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

So what is the average price for a decent replacement seat.

Spoke to Jason, sound chap. He has a distributor "Extreme" who has a stand at Max Power Live (they should also have a material specimen pack there too). Also a few cars with the Konig seats in them are being shown. He quoted me £900 inc VAT and delivery for two K5000G seats, 2 frames and enough extra cloth for an interiors re-trim. The "G" denotes that harness loops are fitted in the headrest. Max 6 weeks delivery. If anyone mentions the 300zx Club when speaking to him, he makes sure that the price gets a club discount. http://www.300zx.co.uk/rides/jvnewcomb1961/k5000gcloth.gif http://www.300zx.co.uk/rides/jvnewcomb1961/k5000gleather.gif http://www.koenig-sitze.de/de/home.html

I'm going to check out the seats and material, then order on Monday.

  • 2 months later...

The new seats finally arrived on Friday (8 weeks since ordered from Konig). Seats are really good and the sub frames are very well made and strong. The subframe for the drivers seat (DA 69) was an exact match for the bolts in the floor but the passenger side one was not. The frame should have been welded square but the metal going down the door side is at a slight inward angle meaning that the hole for the bolt to go through is 1/4" out line. As I couldn't be bothered to wait for a new sub frame to be sent from germany I had a friend grind out the weld and re-weld it again to fit. Once sprayed up with black enamel paint you cant see any difference to the good one. The subframes also sit a little off centre to the original position so the passenger sits closer to the door and the driver sits about 4cm to the right of the centre of the steering wheel which takes a little getting used but is not a major problem. The Konig 5000 seats are a little narrower than the standard seats so are easily fitted to the car. The seat is a medium size and is just right. The sides are nice and high and the scupltured backrest sides come out past your ribs and the shoulders do the same. All in all they are very comfortable. The material and manufacture is high quality. Just got to get hold of the retrimmer to start the interior retrim in the matching cloth that Konig supplied to me. I will post some pictures of the seats as soon as I have downloaded them from the cam.

I am in contact with Konig about helping them reset their jigs to correct these issues and will let you know the outcome.

As a side point, it is possible to get subframes made by your local welder.

alternatively, I know a guy form the GTi-R owners board, Adrian Cash (in this months Jap Performance mag), who works closely with Cobra making one-off or rare subframes - I'll try and get hold of his email address if anyone is interested.
