Right...this is one for all you website genius people

Just saw that 1 and 1 advert on TV and it looks so easy to build a website but everything looks easy on TV (remember all those appliances they showed on TV in Woolworths and when you buy one its utter shite!...sorry off topic)

Basically has anyone used http://www.1and1.co.uk is it any good/easy to do and not expensive? Or can anyone recommend anything else for me?

Cheers guys :thumbup1:

 nice one Daz!!! Do I detect a slight bit of sarcasm?

From the adverts I've seen that 1 and 1 looks pretty good, but never used it myself...

Alternatively, plugging my mates up and coming business, he does really good web design, web hosting, graphic design etc... http://www.impulsemedia.co.uk/

I work for a design and hosting company and 1&1 are a nightmare to work with.

For every customer who transfers to us we always have issues and they hold your domain to randsom.

I would stay away from them.

If its just hosting then i would use VidaHost, there servers are in maidenhead and you get a 1 to 1 support when needed.

Highly recomended and we have over 300 web sites hosted with them via our company and i personally have a reseller account with them too !

There sites below :

http://www.vidahost.com

thats if you signed up with them and reg your domain .. other wise if u reg on say fast host site like that u have control over it

ok ... suppose your on the other end of web site stuff compared to me the end user

i use fast hosts for well years never had a problem with there email/hosting/domain

even transferring reg's

1and1 web .. its been about 4 years now and thats been fine

You could be with any host and not have any issues what so ever as you are just one in many.

But if you operate on the basis of hosting sites in the hundreds you tend to notice the differances.

Fast Hosts are a good company but like heart internet aswell they have become very large and i think the

customer support has become second to them making money and many operations are now automated.

Automated is not a bad thing but sometimes having a technical guy working on the job you know things

are getting done fast rather than being stuck in a queue waiting to get dealt with.

With Vidahost there is a team of technicians who work directly on the systems and reply back to you with

honest answers rather than pre selected replies.

I just feal more in my comfort zone with them than any other hosting company i have used in the last 15 years.

I use Webs.com for mine pretty easy to use not really had any problems except when I couldn't renew my domain name. It kept saying that my address was different to the payment, which it wasn't. In the end Webs gave me my domain and didn't charge for it as they knew that the problem was at their end.

So I got a free domain name.

Im trying to make one at the moment too, i looked at 1and1, that was as far as i got. Went on moonfruit, very easy to use but it always seems to cost a fortune a month to host it.

So, i bought serif webplus which apparently is really easy to use, havent figured it out yet - about £60 for the software and £40 a year for them to host it.

Try my m8 on akitawebs.co.uk:ninja:

How did you get on with seriff

I've used http://www.ARhoster.com for years now and never had a problem with them, really helpful with technical problems too.

They also chuck in a pre configured wordpress site as well as shops and all sorts so makes it really quick and easy to set up.

If you need a hand let me know buddy :)

i use 123reg.com for both hosting and their instant site package costs me roughly £40 a year with domain name as well
