When trying to attach my manual box to the car after replacing everything bar the kitchen sink under my car, I get to within an inch or so of the block and no further.

I've installed a pilot bushing into the back of my crank, but in hitting it in it seems to have shrunk a little?!?! I've measured the inside of the pilot bushing and it's now 1/2mm smaller than the input shaft on the gearbox?!?!

I'm now stumped, has anyone else come across this.

(i'm converting from an auto to a manual)

Cheers.

Fairly common if the engine has also been out - possibly even if it hasn't..

You may find the engine has tilted a little, and that you need to raise the front of the engine (engine hoist, might be possible with blocks and a jack) to tilt the rear down a little, and then it should slide on..

I haven't measured the bushings like that - but it seems to be a common thing that people can get the gearbox *almost* on, but not quite..

cheers for the reply!

I've done the tilting thing with a jack under the sump, it was plum straight with the gearbox. The interesting thing is that the pilot bushing was an **** to get in, so me being a bit rough with it has probably deformed it.

Anyway, i've got to box on and everything connected up, so i'll take it for a drive tonight and see if I get any vibrations.

I'll probably get a garage to put a new one in in the near future just to be sure. (let someone else have the aggro!) wink.gif
