I'm finally going to get the car tuned by john dixon on Saturday. So I thought it might be nice for people to guess what power I will come back with (providing it doesn't go tits up)

 

So a basic run down on the spec that'll probably make a difference...

Forged internals - eagle rods etc etc

Greddy td05 16G turbos

740cc nismo injectors

AMS Underdrive pulley

New splitfire coilpacks

All the usual stuff like air filter and exhaust etc.

Southbend clutch and RPS segmented flywheel

Can't remember all the other basic stuff

 

So come on guess away. Feel free to ask if anything else is done

For the reletavely low amount of boost it's running, yeah pretty pleased. Yeah deffo having it re done soon. Just got to hardware a conzult cable into the loom close the the ecu and then start again

Right. So firstly it's a little disappointing to be honest, it ended up at 452 point something.

 

So that problems I had were:

Believe it or not, the exhaust was too small and resticting. So that was a problem. The mid to rear section is only a 2" pipe.

Next, I need to upgrade the cams.

 

The main one at the minute is the exhaust though. Anyone got any ideas what I should get?

 

When the car went in today it had an fc tuning map and to be honest wasn't running well at all, also the timing was out by either 6 or 9 degrees (can't remember exactly). Was also running something or other which was very dangerous - 14 afr or something like that.

 

Anyway, it's running a lot nicer now and is obviously quicker so that's good but would like liked higher figures.

452bhp is nothing to be disapointed at depending of course at what revs and torque figures you got at the same time? as this will determine the drivability on the road, and how come the timing was out as it had been checked over ? thats poor.

 

Personally I would not change the cams and instead go for adjustable cam pulleys, that way the exhaust valve opening can be delayed slightly which should improve on the generally poor header design, the restriction as you describe in the exhaust is not as bad a problem as the poor header tuning issues.

That torque was quite good, I don't have the printout with me but I'm sure it was over 400. The car drives a lot better.

 

I think one of tHe belts have skipped a tooth mate or the CAS ain't eight as we've had to turn it fully to one side to get the right timing. I can put the printout up tomorrow if you like.

 

Where would I get the adjustable cam pulleys?

 

John was a great help and all round a great guy. Did a lot more than the or opus guys who were looking to tune it.

 

It also wants to cut out after being on boost, revs drop off, the idle control valve was changes but didn't fix it... Did make it better tho

I would get the exhaust fixed first, the adjustable cam pulleys will unlock some power, but require an awful lot of tuning time to do it. I would also argue that with stock cams, it's not worth it.

:shock: not possible with a correctly installed belt, how come so many basic set up issues have been left unsorted to then be done at the RR session after been pre-checked?

 

Building engines to big power should involve been set up correctly from the off, this "oh its on a run in map" is a cop out in my view and then to find basic timing issue, boost and tickover stability problems?? take it back to where it was done and demand it is sorted and get your RR money back for the wasted time.

Jeff is quite right, the basics have to be sorted before trying to unlock power, regardless of spec
