When i stopped at a set of traffic lights this morning on my way home from work i noticed spoke coming from under the bonnet. I lifted the bonnet to see oil all over the battery and surrounding area. When i shone a light on it i noticed the Dipstick had been blown out a good inch or so. I'm guessing this isnt a good thing, but what is the cause?

 

I recently installed a FMIC, which upped the boost to around 1.4 bar, and noticed on the way home it was only boosting to around 1.2 bar. I imagine the boost is a result of the problem, if not the cause.

 

Any help and advise would be greatly apreciated. I'm very worried about this!! :(

......the two options I would consider (funds permitting of course) are:

 

1. A full rebuild by Jimmer - expensive but worth it from all the evidence I have seen. And you can have it built to take the extra power you chose to run at, providing you have deep pockets....

 

2. Get your car to JeffTTs for an engine transplant with a known good replacement - and don't run it at more than 14psi of boost!!

Just to clairfy, the process of a proper rebuild is expensive, Jimmer rate's are actually very good!

How good are jimmers rates? I haven't spoken to him yet but at the moment he's definatley an option. It's going to be a while before I can afford to fix the zed, but it would be good to know how much it will cost so I can get an idea of just how long it's going to take :)

he's on holiday, as most jobs vary depending on what you want I'd give him a ring when he gets back for a price. Think he's back end of next week

Sorry to hear this Rob, an all too familiar story. Exactly what happened to mine, except I hadn't increased the boost deliberately..

 

Can fully recommend Jimmer. Ball park figures - 3.5k for a basic rebuild in 4-6 weeks, depending on when the parts are ordered.

 

As Quavey said, either remove the boost controller (and therefore the temptation), or fit bigger fuel injectors. Z1 supply Jecs 750cc injectors for $648 - Jecs are the OEM supplier and much better value than Nismo.

 

If a jobs worth doing it's worth doing well, but damn, it'll cos a fortune. I reckon you need to spend a minimum of 7.5k on a good engine to get reliable big bhp, but your engine ain't good no more - so add the rebuild cost to that figure too.
