So i can smell fuel at high revs / boost and when i get out of the car from turning it off, am i to guess this is most probably just a pipe that needs checking / tightening in the bay like so many others have experienced, I dont smell anything at idle or cold.

Usually if its hose related it goes away when warm the opposite of what your describing. Do you get large black zotty desposits? Or black smoke on boost?i

check your fuel lines on the engine ..

nope no smoke all appears well on that front, i did have some recent issues with my fuel pump / fuel tank so the chances are my fuel filter is blocked (which im going to replace tonight) what about the hardlines from the tank to the front?

All the leaks I've seen fuel wise were in the crappy little hoses in the engine bay.

 

Used to but the Smithy kit to sort it, but not sure who does a kit now.

yeah, like above, first check is the fuel lines down in beside the throttle bodies (for the injectors), also the ones to and from the fuel regulators and the fuel filter ones.

 

I replaced all mine (like many others on here) and also used better clips and hose (the little bolt clips and the braided hose).

 

these are the most common place for leaks. Also when at boost (& high revs) I think the pump works harder.

i think it was the pump i could smell, noticed when i got in the car i could smell it at standstill, i had the fuel pump out last week, anyone know where i can get a new fuel pump seal gasket?

theres a rubber o ring that goes in there, but whoever fit the replacement fuel tank for the MOT made a botch job didnt replace the seal and used some black silicone instead, the silicone went into the fuel tank turned to goo and killed the fuel pump, i replaced the fuel pump and cleaned the tank out :( but i think in wrenching the old fuel pump out that was siliconed in (took two of us pulling on it with a claw hammer i may add) i thinkt he O ring is stretched and thus thats where the smell of fuel is eminating from. Appears i can buy the replacement ring in the USA, however im not in the USA, anyone know where to get a brand spanker seal?

its not just that.... when i stop the car and open my door that's when i smell it the most!! ? Ive checked all engine pipes, all look good and everythings tight.

So have you checked under the car?

and it's easy to get to the pump, in the spare wheel well.

if it's some of the pipes off the pump I think it's a little more difficult.

i didnt check under the car this morning For A. Its slightly lowered and i can get my man boobs under and B. it was raining :) perhaps a job for this evening :)

having not looked myself are the pipes from tank to engine, hard lines that could corrode and rust away?

I don't think you'd smell it form the inside as the tank is is outside the cabin and so are the fuel lines..

the lines are hard pipes and yes could corrode or be damaged.

there is a protective cover over them (under the car).

it smells when i open the door (now that ive re sealed the fuel pump for now , new o-ring on way from nissan dealer)

from cold, with bonnet open, turn key to on position but do not start the car, wait about 5 seconds, turn ignition off then on again, get out and go sniffing in the engine bay, pay particular attention to the small pipe under the throttle leavers (you will see the leak with a torch if it is there) and also the FPR (hat thing with small vac line coming from the top to the balance bar, on right hand side of engine between coil packs 4 and 6), i didn't notice the leak on my mates until the engine was cold so the leak was more prominent, if you are smelling it from out side the car but not inside, then its most likely from the engine bay.

 

My mates smelled just like someone had actually split petrol on the floor. but it was infact the pipe that joins the injector rails.
