Moving forward with my Z.....................

Firstly I want to thank the guys at Custom Exotics for all their help so far and allowing me to work on my car in their workshop. I know I've been in the way and they probably can't wait to see the back of my Z, but my car has been their since April after finding more and more problems. They've given me help, opinions, let me borrow the odd tool and not once have they turned their back on me. Without these guys I have no doubt my Z would have been scrapped after so many places doing shoddy work on my Z.

At the moment, my interior is all out and being trimmed so I thought I better make sure the bodywork is ok as sadly I found I couldn't rely on anyone else. I started attacking the underneath with Dinitrol underseal (by brush). I've removed bits as I went along, including any brackets and covers on the underside, the suspension, anti roll bars and basically anything that I could remove. I also drilled out every nut and bolt that had been snapped over the years by garages and retapped all the holes (that in itself was a long job)

Next job was to check the inside as sadly both my rear sills had rusted and have had to be replaced. I pulled out the carpet and found that it looked in a sorry state including water sitting in the channels. My first job was to run new pipes for the rear sill and have them exit the bottom properly without any joins. I did this with 10mm I.D silicone tubing and using some 10mm compression olives pushed in the ends to form a ridge. That was then sikoflexed into the holes (got to put some underseal round them next to finish it off)

Here's some pictures of the floorpan after I pulled the carpet and cleaned all the carpet backing/insulation that had stuck on

I then treated all the rust I could get to with spray rust converter. I did this a few times in the hope of getting to it all. I've then sprayed Dinitrol cavity spray down the channels and rear sills and painted the floorpan with Dinitrol underseal

They really are mate. They are honest and tell you as it is. When I've been stuck with something, they've both dropped what they're doing and helped me. I'd like to believe they are extremely nice guys - or maybe they just want to get rid of me lol

Cheers guys :)

Wow well done mate, looking at sound proofing my Zed later in the month, goy to make room in my garage first. What have you used in completing yours.

No, leaving the battery in the engine bay, that was just an amp wire :)

Bought the stuff off Ebay about a year ago, it's like a thick silver foil with a layer of tar on the back. Groover used it first IIRC :) Not too bad to lay, using a hairdryer and a wallpaper seam roller to get it into nooks and crannies.

The seller is still on there but doesn't advertize anything :( - might be worth contacting him though.... http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/fittingsolutions?ssPageName=ADME:X:CEM:GB:1181
