i need some advice from the engine builders among us.

i want to build a 500bhp engine, that's strong enough to maintain a fair degree of reliability.

the current plans between me and the guys at work have managed to make a list of parts coming to nearly £10,000, so i think im over doing it,

im wondering what you guys would do to build an engine to this spec?

i've got the hardware to make the power but need an engine that wont go bang the first time its used on a track.

555cc injectors and a dual intake, as well as a bigger turbos etc,

i also need to know how you make sense of the bearings? i want to get some uprated ones like i had in my S13 but cant find them anywhere.

im definably going for:

88mm forged pistons

eagle con rods

rebuilding the heads,

new bearings,

oil and water pump

new gaskets and seals etc

but do i need 1mm oversized valves and race cams to reach this goal? uprated valve train to match,

anything else?

i've rebuilt a ca18det (s13 engine) before but that was only 300bhp not sure what i need for 500 lol.

thanks

Ditch the hydraulic lifters. Make them solid

Bigger valves and higher lift cams will help too. They might allow you to run a little less boost and still get the power.

nice and cheap but essential .........Oil squirters see here @ CZP http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=2507&Car_Type=300&UID=20120813142035213.123.213.42

Bearings from CZP, see web......take the time to speak to Coz at CZP, I'm sure he will give you a few pointers.

If you want some adjustable cam gears I may some for sale soon?

1 x ARP VG30DE (TT) Head & Main Stud Kit

1 x JWT 400+ Series Cams, R4+

1 x JWT HD single coil valve spring kit (all 24 springs)

1 x Z1 Camshaft Sprocket Adapters

1 x Z1 Intake & Exhaust Bronze Valve Guides (24)

1 x Z1 VG30DE(TT) Basic Engine rebuild kit (Wiseco Pistons & Eagle R

1 x Ferrea/Z1 Ti Valve spring retainers

1 x AMS Max Flow TT Exhaust Manifolds *possible

1 x 850cc fuel injector kit & 300 Degree Rails *possible

1 x GT600R Turbo Kit *possible

1 x BDE Performance Z32 Electric Water Pump

1 x BDE Performance VTC Gears

adjustable cam gears

on top of this you've got all the seals and gaskets, freeze plugs galley plugs,

and then i've got my drive train to beef up to take it too.

all in i think we worked it out to be £9800 in parts,

You can get uprated bearings from ACL. Do a google search. I ordered mine from the states.

As pete says, uprated cams. JWT do a range of cams, which you can get from Z1 aswell as JWT springs

£10k aint hard to hit with an engine build. Remember all your shipping costs and import duty.

Some suggestions of top of my head:

full gasket kit - their are loads of seals and gaskets that aint included in the 'full gasket kit'

Commetic head gaskets

New PCVs

NA oil squirters

Timing Belt - Greddy/Power Enterprise

ARP head bolts

Pulley set, lightened fly, uprated clutch, single piece lightened prop

Turbo manifolds - Mike Smith/AMS

downpipes, exhaust bla bla bla

Dump AIVs, EGR, PVCR, air con etc etc

Oil cooler kit - there is a nice set available at Z1

With your dual intake - Selin MAF translator, larger intake pipes, larger throttle bodies, bored upper and lower plenums

not heard of doing that before, good idea.

damn, a bit late lol

oh, ECU probably worth adding to your list :)

If you are spending that kind of money, you should think about a modern alloy chevy LS engine swap. Very reliable. 5.7 litres and up plus 500 easy bhp. Google "Craig Taylor

RX7" This guy has a business fitting these things to all manner of cars. Some making 1200bhp. ( Though I think that level of power would cost more than £10k)

Worth a look.

i think i missed that from our list... not sure how i managed that,

good point about the uprated timing belt too

Good list but you need to think of the breathing side also. 2.5" intercooler and inlet piping plus a decent set of intercoolers will really help. I haven't done cams as letting the engine breathe better will produce better results than cams in relation to cost IMHO. Engine management is a must and I would recommend an Emerald System.

Infact, my advice would be.... Don't do it! :)

Buy Andy isherwoods 300 and spend the rest on a holiday to Florida :)
