Widest tyres on a z?

Hi Guys,

Just curious as to what is the widest tires you could fit on to a 300zx at the rear? I realise its all dependant on the alloy width etc. I thinking along the lines of grip and bring able to put the power down, rather than any affect on top speed etc.

Cheers!

But front aint that important is it, too fat tyres at the front wont really give any advantage would it now? probably slow you down? am i right in thinking that?

i would have thought 235 are alright at the front?

I agree mate - too wide on the front and the car will tramline; 235 is probably the best option for the fronts (I have 235/40/18) but I can't see the point of going wider than 245 on the front.......

265-285 will be plenty, more important to buy a decent brand tire

.....and I agree 100% I'm sticking to 265/35/18 on the rear - I have no need to go any wider - but will only fit premium brands like Goodyear/Bridgestone/Conti etc.

You also need to consider the cost of replacements - getting up to 285+ will be pricey - especially when you factor in the aspect ratio (tyre profiles) to keep the running radius on target. So once you get into the huge sizes, the decent budget brands in 285/30+ sizes can start to cost almost as much as premium 265/35s. And I know what I would rather have on my car; they're the only things keeping you on the road!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

You do not want to be fitting those brands to a zed. I've got Pirelli P Zero Corsa N6 235/40x18 on the front and Continental (extra load) contisport contact 275/35xzr18 on the rear and it grips really well. Wheel widths 8.5 front and 9.5 rear.

Other things to look out for to keep the rear in check is the condition of your hicas bushes and general condition of all suspension parts. My hicas bushes were in a poor state and the car was running on budget tyres when I got it and it was a scary beast at times, particularly in the wet. With good tyres and a fresh suspension setup it has been tamed somewhat.

I've never heard of Nixxan, maybe you mean Nexen?

Nexen are an economy range tyre, not too bad, I've never used them but have used their sister brand Roadstone on my daily drive for the past 50k miles.

Look at http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/ for an idea on the quality of most of the available brands.
