Yes, just be careful if using a sander not to take too much off or burn the plastic. When I did mine I was advised by the guy that was to paint it that it did not have to be totaly smooth as he would be using a high build primer to prep it anyway.

Light rub down and i would use a skim of plastic filler over the top to get it 100% :)
