Can an MX6 (2.5 V6) happily pull a car transporter with a Zed on it?

I was looking at a Zed on ebay, it was a project the guy is selling.

I'm considering buying it, but very unsure, the first obstacle is getting it from Dundee, Scotland back to Newcastle.

I looked into hiring a car transporter / trailer on the net.

The whole trailer thing has thrown up all kinds of issues I'd never really considered, but now I'm wondering if my dads MX6 (2.5 v6) can safely pull a car transporter / trailer with a Z on it?

I'm starting to think its not a good idea, especially as the MX6 is FWD.

I'm not even going to ask whether I (or my dad) should have a trailer licence...that was a whole other can of worms.

Any advice would be great!

I personally would look for something bigger to pull the trailer, however regarding pulling a trailer on your license, depending on your age, especially your dads maybe he will old mans privileges and will be marked on the license under categories.

most saloon cars will have around 1.1 ton braked limit to what they can pull ...

Trailer 250kg

Zed 1500kg

to pull the zed/trailer u need a 4x4 or large van and the licence that allowes u to pull such

If its the project zed im thinking you are on about, just a question, why? looks way to much work.

Id be inclinded to use a 4X4 though.

yeah .... like i said .. Most Saloon cars can not pull/allowed to pull more than 600kg none brake or 1.1ton braked

Zed+trailor comes to 1750kg give or take a little

Cheers all! This doesn't bode well, but I think I expected such responses, so fair enough. I've also looked at quotes for 'recovery' transporter trucks, but that's a minimum of £200, so that's just getting silly.

I was just looking at it for the shell / chassis really, all the parts were more of a bonus, would mean I have spares (though no where to keep them other than my garden). I think I have to work with what I've got right now. Unless there is another storm tomorrow I'll cut the bad metal away from my Project Zed and see where I stand.

yep thats the one i thought it was. if you are after a tidy shell, i know where there will eventually be a pentroof LWB wide arch shell going soonish.

A Pentroof LWB sound very nice, but also expensive. :D As always I'm working on a budget, I do look forward to someday not working on a budget but that seems to be the thing of fairytale. lol

I would be interested in that shell, but I imagine I'd not the the only one. Thing is, it comes back to transporting it...which it seems I cant safely / legally do, unless I want to pay £200 plus on a truck.

I used to drive a transit (many years ago now), a normal one, but don't imagine it would be long enough (unless it was the extended kind), but I don't think it would be wide enough either?

well if it helps you out a bit I live in the boarders and if you need a stop over for a night, you are more than welcome to crash at mines ,thats if you go and get it

Hire a Transit Van.

I think "hire" a transit is to pull the transporter, NOT put the zed in it ! :p

Sorry couldn't resist that ! Lol lol

Thank god for that, sooooooo would like to see the pics of u trying though ! Lmao

Seriously, being x artic driver the prob with the mx6 is nothing to do with engine, it's going to be the weight of the transporter and the zed on the arse of a small and light fwd car ! I wouldn't chance it mate, would be VERY unstable, borrow bigger car, 4x4 etc or as said, hire a tranny ! :)
