JWT chip

I heard that a JWT chip will apart from the hp gain(how match actually?) improve the gas mileage of the car when the car is driven normally. Another think that in the program can take economy at low revs into consideration to make the car cheaper to run. How close is this to the trough?

Featured Replies

I heard the same thing, but to be honest I never noticed a difference either way. But saying that I'm putting my foot down more and my consumption has not gone down, so maybe it is true.

anyone else got a JWT chip on?

have a word with chrisc i think hes has one for sale,i think he got another chip and never used the new jwt 1 he bought.cheers jay

Dimitris - I have had a JWT chip in mine for 2 years. The chip is stable but once programmed has to be sent back to the US to be reprogrammed again by JWT to match any new mods you may do to the car. Also if you buy someone elses chip be sure to find out what it was programmed to match up with. eg air filter type, fuel type, type of turbos fitted, manual/automatic, etc. If it doesn't match your car the your engine may not run right. Other chips are available for the 300zxTT from DTA, Unichip and SE Nissan.

What did adding the chip do to your Ins premium - I mean how much did it go up??

Willie

Question:

How would the Insurance company possibly know that the EPROM is different from standard - without performing a core dump?

Do you honestly think that they are that thorough?

No comment. smile.gif

It happened to a friend just 6 months ago. He had a wiring loom fire on his cossie (only about £750k worth but more than his excess) and the first thing the assessor did was crack open the ecu. He showed that it had an upgrade chip fitted. Got a refund of premium though.

The upgrade chip was something my friend didnt even know about or he would have checked it himself and put back the stock chip first.

For a Z the assessor just has to check a forum like this and look for a socketed ecu to suspect he has an out from honouring any insurance claim. These guys are not daft and they do look for outs.

So cmon how much extra premium? I might want one!

Willie

i) If socketed then obvious.

ii) If not socketed the removal of the old chip/resoldering of the new chip will almost certainly leave marks/evidence on the underside of the circuit board.

WillieO - sorry mate, I don't have time to look for this but there has been a thread (if not more) about this in the past few months.

IIRC, some insurers allow you up to three non-standard mods before they go ballistic. Somone mentioned that if you call it "replacement ECU" rather than "I've chipped me engine", they don't go paranoid on you.

But bear in mind that all insurance policies have some wording which say something like "if you haven't disclosed something which we think you should, you're stuffed".

Damn - i thought i could get away with that!

My existing insurance company(not mentioning any names - i'm paranoid now!) quoted me an extra £3K for my premium with the mods. i've got.

But i found Adrian S Flux charged me about £400 extra.

Any suggestions for good modded Z insurers?
