Looks tasty that, other than being about 8" too long... Although I can't stand that style of side skirt with the pointless silly hole! Buyer beware on the bad bits though, sounds like it has some rust issues...

The bigger the better :)

Some sub-surface rust bubbling over o/s rear wheel arch (see picture) - not broken through yet

Sills and some seat belt anchor points will probably need attention before next MOT

 

Real story.......

Rear arches are rusting extensively from the inside. It is now so bad its breaking through....which means both arches need replacing.:ninja:

Sills and seatbelt anchor points are totally *****xed also and endless hours of fabrication and welding will be needed.:blink:

Finally you will never match 20 year old pearlescent paint:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

When its put like that its sad. How on earth does so much rust get into a Jap import:sad: Mine is totaly rust free was this one driven in the sea!

I believe that JDM cars aren't protected underneath as well as UK cars as they don't salt the roads over there. This car has been in the country since 1990 (longer than most UK spec zeds!), not only that but it's covered 250,000 miles so I doubt it's been a Sunday fun in the sun car :)

 

Imports are generally considered as rust free when they arrive but give them a few winters in the salt without proper protection and it's likely they will be just as bad if not worse than the equivalent UK spec.

Feel sorry for it,the poor thing has had a hard life and I suppose back in 1990 there was a lot of 300zx's about and nobody thought of taking care of them. But now if you have one in good condition they are treasured toys.:biggrin: Look after your toys guys:thumbup:

Good point Joel. although its technically an import its been used here all its life on our salty roads. AND its been round the world several times.

Lots of people dont understand the rear arch rust thing. By the time you see it its too late!! As it rusts outwards from the hidden seams and box sections. I have chopped up enough of them to see how it all begins.

I thought they had the same protection - but I agree about imports being considered more rust free owing to them not spending so much time here in winter when we salt our roads. In Japan they use some kind of volcanic ash on the roads in harsh winter conditions. But give all J-spec cars a few years here and they'll soon be just as rusty (potentially) as domestic examples - don't kid yourselves J-spec owners!!! All 300zxs need rustproofing during their lifetimes, just to keep the tin-moth at bay......:ninja:

 

The thing that baffled me was that this car was supposedly imported in 1990; whilst I don't necessarily doubt that, back in 1990 the grey import scene was unknown. Not to mention that one could buy a 300zx from Nissan here, since they were on sale in new form!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
