Anyone got a pic of the gearbox of the car with parts listed, just had me clutch fitted and the mechanic noticed a sensor that was purposely detached from it's harness, this sensor is at the top of the box, just below the plate where the gear shifter attaches ?

any ideas ?

cheers

Gear oil sensor

or

Something to do with the Cruise Control. I know if you knock it out of gear while its on, it turns off. Maybe this is what detects it.

hi,

it's not for the cruise i don't think as i have a bad habit of knocking it into neutral when i see traffic slowing on motorway etc, without using the clutch, one day did this with cruise on and the revs up as the car was trying to maintian speed scared the shit out of me!!!!

or if it is maybe mines disconected aswell???

sorry no real help!

Its just one of the tests I did when I got the car to see when the CC comes off. I know its strange thing but its the type of thing that I test. biggrin.gif

I know the ECU uses the signal for something...I'm not sure for what though.

...maybe to detect when you change gears or something.

It's possibly for the gearbox oil temp sender. European Z's have this feature but jap ones don't.

My understanding is that some Zs have an oil cooler like the diff one, which kicks in a pump at certain temps.

I think it's something to do with the cruise control - mine doesn't work at the moment and my neutral switch seems to be faulty/disconnected.

Have you not noticed that the revs go up when you put the car in gear. I guess this tells it when to go up a bit, helps not to stall it.
