How to identify aftermarket turbos..............

...........If you have no paper work?

My Mate who purchased his Black wide arch off a salvage site with very minimal damage has got himself something special:yes::yes: it goes like a rocket, boost over 18 and wants to tear up the tarmac !

He has had the car on his ramps at work [just put a new clutch in it] and the are larger then mine and look pretty new but cannot see any identification

Is there a way of identifying??

Dave

It's normally printed on the cast of the turbo or there's a small plate with the Model/spec/part number

So how would you identify the right one in your picture seeing that it has no id plate?

It'll have an ID tag on the centre housing somewhere but you might struggle to see it in place, try using a telescopic mirror if you have one. The cast print on the housings can give you some details about them like the internal size, but I think you need the plate to get bearing/compressor details

The details on the housing is clear could we get an idea of what these are from that?

From what I understand the same housings can be used on different turbos, the difference between them is things like the size of the compressor/turbine wheels inside the housings, the number of blades on them, the trim of the blades, material of the wheels, type of bearings etc. which is why you need the details off that plate for specifics unless of course they have been modified from standard. Have a look at the manufacturers website and see what you can find, or email/call them with the model of car and the details you have or have another look for the plate as that in a google search will tell you everything, problem solved

Been looking the say AR 48 on the housing! would this denote non standard?

Thats the stock A/R for stock turbos, or GT525's (as they use machined out stock turbine housings)

Thanks Nick I was just looking at your Jimmer thread and did notice the numbers were the same as GT525's:thumbup1:
