Im in somerset.

Jimmer isnt far. But I really need a garage, close to home where I can go and get stuff done on an as needed basis. As you probably read on my other thread, getting someone to do my PAS pipe has been a nightmare.

I would rather use JeffTT for work, but he is quite far for such a minor job. I just dont want to go paying 2 or 3 hours labour for such a little job. The car is low mileage with no rust and I think it should be pretty straight forward with the right tools.

Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Who does everyone else in the Area use?

I did my pas pipe when I got my tt and as Lee said it is'nt hard at all

If I was near to you mate I would've done it for you,all for the costly sum of a cup of tea and a biscuit but unfortunatly I live miles away, surely some one near will offer you a hand:)

Well, there are a few near. But everyone has stuff on - all legitimate too.

Rob Hughes moving house - thats a biggy.

Eggs - Is from the area (less than a mile!) but is away with work long term.

Jimmer - Works all week, and had plans all day today, and understandably Sunday is a family day for him.

Im sure there is more, Yewcheck, but I think he is more gloucester way, at which point its starting to cost more in fuel lmao.

If anyone wants to come and do it, I have Tea, biscuits coffee and a bonus of £50 for having to put up with me :P

For your info fitting charge for the pas pipe is £65 +vat including new fluid.

Hey Jimmer I didnt mean it like that.

i asked on Fri what you were upto on the weekend. You advised you were busy Sat and Sun is family day, which is expected, and a fair comment.

Which is why I text you yesterday asking, when would be a good time for you to fit it in, and how much you would want for it. Im not using the car again after today, till next weekend anyway. I only ever use it on weekends, and just top up the PAS fluid before I go lol.

Just I'd rather take it to someone who knows what they are doing. Like yourself, Jeff and Luke.

The As needed basis was not terminology for I need it now, so do it now, it was more of, a case of I need to get small jobs done now and then, as its what I have been told to expect with a Z. I dont mind going on a waiting list, and if the job was bigger, I'd expect to wait longer.

Just to clear your small fopaux up matey there is only one dedicated full time zed specialist garage in the UK and that is ZEDWORLD, Jimmer is a dedicated engine rebuilder and has built his top reputation on that and so specialises in engine rebuilds which takes his free time up outside of his full time job.

Luke ( Zcentre) is a HOME based reseller of parts and some kits he has made for all manor of Japanese marque`s, he has an associate .... Mick at mobile fleet car ( 4 x 4 specialist and commercial vehicles ) that he promotes as his mechanic, simply put there is no other full time Zed only based garage/workshop.

The steering pipe is tricky but not imposible for any garage to do, but running any garage is a balancing act of profit and loss like any business and I guess the garage you went to was reluctant to start something they thought they could not finish, owning a zed like many other less common cars comes with compromise and repairs and servicing can be one of them, hence why we exist.

If The PAS pipe wasnt such a safety risk, I would of waited till I was up your way anyway Jeff lol.

I never knew the above, so thanks for clearing that up mate. I need to get exhaust changed before I come up to you, as its blowing a treat and Im only getting just under 4km per £1 of fuel at the moment lol - and thats without using any boost!

Soon as its sorted, will book in at a time suitable for you, as I want a few other bits done too while its with a pro :D

that`s a lot

Good fuel economy? I havent taken it over 3500 revs in those 100km mind lol.

25p per KM.

35p per Mile ish.

Thats with Fuel costing £1.269 per litre.

I was expecting 35-40p per mile, under normal driving conditions (not extra steady driving)

lol read the whole context buddy.

The Z isnt my first car lol. its a toy. I have a Diesel Citroen DS3 for daily chores, which does 70+ mpg lol.

You had any joy sorting someone yet Ryan? Have you tried N.E. Motors 860123 in Ditcheat? I'd be surprised if he can't do it and if not let me know, I have a friend in Southwood who can possibly help if he's not still busy

  • Author

????

bit random mate.

I only had 2 problems, both sorted. Why would I drop of a one previous owner from new z, with 51k or so on the clock, and not a singke gram of rust, running perfectly I might add, in the middle of nowhere lmao.

Hi Eggs, Neighbours brother owns a garage in Wells. Turns out its the garage next door to my partners grans farm lol.

So he did mates rates £10 an hour! :D Well Chuffed.

Good to hear its sorted mate, when you bringing it down lol

Hi Rob, Gotta come see you soon, I got your Axel Stands and Trolley Jack.

Bit wet at mo lol. Drove to tesco yesterday and back end went round 90 degrees, at no more than 10mph, under 2500 revs, coming out of a junction lol. Luckily it went in the right direction and pulled straight immediately with no agro and I just carried on driving :D

Still got to fit exhaust. Was going to do it today in the Barn up the farm out of the rain, but noticed I have a bolt missing on my current one. So need to get some high quality bolts, incase any others sheer of too. Got silicone sealent for the pipe, and new "U" brackets. GT80 in the boot for rubber hangers. Could do with some new gaskets too really.

If The PAS pipe wasnt such a safety risk, I would of waited till I was up your way anyway Jeff lol.

By my maths your averaging about 14mpg which running around the houses in an automatic is about right. You can't expect anymore from it! You might do better on super unleaded. Should really be run on that and zeds respond well to it. I once had no choice and put done regular into my first zed. The difference was amazing poor old girl wasn't happy but it was either that or it would have stopped lol. Put enough in to get me to shell filled up on the proper stuff and much happier!

  • Author

I only use Super Unleaded anyway.

Around the houses? We dont have that here lol. No traffic lights or roundabouts. Im out in the country. all A Roads though.

Once Exhaust is repaired will expect more tbh, based on the way I drive that is.

I used the car to go on 4 x 22 miles trips, each only had 4 Junctions (Stop Start) from door to door. It should be better. I had 2 x Mitsi GTO's, a 420bhp S14, 3 MR2 Tubbies to name a a few over the years, but have never had sub 20mpg, driving in this area, in that manor.

When I visit family in Basingstoke, I would only expect 10-12mpg around town, as its constant traffic, roundabouts and traffic lights.

If You look here: http://www.fuelly.com/car/nissan/300zx

20mpg is not unrealistic for constant Extra Urban Driving. Infact its reasonable for combined - and thats with average driving, not extra cautious due to wet road conditions.

That link defaults to U.S MPG. US Gallons are smaller than UK gallons. 20mpg U.S is about 24 mpg UK.

18-22mpg seems fairly common as an average by most peoples standards on here.

The car will do high 20's even into the 30's on long motorway runs, but will easily drop to low teens in town or if your having a lot of fun.

If your experiencing abnormally low mpg, then a blowing exhaust will not be the cause, but for basic jobs like that you don't need a specialist, any good garage will do.
