Steering rack change question

fecking thing, worked fine for a bit after my last post about having lumpy steering, now its gone back to being lumpy again, as i said last time symptoms are basically, fluid in the PAS pot, so not an issue, PAS pot working fine and not making any strange sounds so think thats ruled that out. when dry steering from full lock to full lock im getting a clunking sound at the end of the movement, noticed some thing else as well, the car wont straighten its self out any more. another words say you are coming around a corner and as the road strengthens you loosen your grip on the wheel to let the car align on its own, well it no longer does that, it will hold what ever angle is on the wheel.

So my diagnostics are either, the steering rack, or the steering column

Have you checked the PS sensor on the rack?

Air in tyres?

UV on the steering shaft?

Air in tyres, check

UV on steering shaft, check

PS sensor on rack? why would that make a clunking noise?

something is not right and its doing my head in, also today was faced with having to shove stick to get it into gear, it wasnt grinding or anything, just really stiff to get into gear - all gears, ive checked for obstructions but nothing is in the way. doubt the two are related though as i had this problem with the steering when i had a auto as well.

Ps sensor senses the load, so if its duff, it will be assuming you are going really fast and stiffen up lol.

Have you taken the pipes off at any point and blocked them to stop the fluid leaking? I had a similar episode where i had accidentally left paper towel stuffed in the pipe.

The clunking is normal when it reaches its farthest point, but you wont notice it when driving, only stationary.

the clunking isnt normal, it happens when i break as well, never had a zed that clunks like it does, i took the car to get the front tyre replaced when it had a bulge on the side and even the garage noticed the clunk and advised me something want right.

the steering hasn't been touched since ive had the car, ive topped it up once, thats about it. the fluid level is fine and not going down or anything.

ive phoned zedworld for a new steering rack, as i still think thats the cause. when steering it feels like something is catching on it and trying to stop it from moving, like it has some resistance but only in odd places, not all the time, but through the cycle of the turn, hard to explain. really need someone to drive the car to understand what im on about lol

Have you checked the little knuckle u joint or whatever u wanna call it lol.

On steering column.

Disconect it from rack and move it about see if it's notchy or stiff.

Sorry read u have checked it mate, would still check again disconect it if u ain't allready.

Would give them symtoms. If it's sticky at one point.

Can't see it being the rack, disconnect steering belt see if it still does it.
