Newb Question Alert

Sorry if this question sounds stupid, it probably is, and is more than likely the simplest answer ever.

But I want to be sure!

OK, as most of you know, Im desperately seeking a new exhaust.

My Car is a 1990 2+2 Auto Turbo.

What exhaust do I need exactly.

Some say pre-cat only, whats that? I know I need a LWB exhaust. But is there actually other differences I need to take into account?

Like I said probably a stupid question, but better safe than sorry before parting with cash.

Not a stupid question at all Ryan and probably quite confusing. Your exhaust system consists of manifolds/headers, precat on left downpipe ( UK only) down pipes which incorporate the catalytic convertors, centre H or X pipe to the rear silencers.

Catback systems are 2 parts, H or Xpipe from the cats to the rear boxes. If you decat ie eliminate the cats, then 3 parts consisting of the first two, plus down pipes, with or without silencer. Most after market systems are designed for the LWB unless stated otherwise.

Manifolds and downpipes are the same for the SWB. hth

ok, so the precat on the down pipe elbow is only on the UK models?

See I wasnt sure if pre -cat meant prior to catalytic convertors being fitted, or something just before the cat on the exhaust lol.

BRB need to pick misses up from work. Great info + Rep.

Precat is before the cat, just off the turbo, rather than further under the car.

You dont need cats on the zed, although 2 things to remember, if your turbo seals are not healthy, then theres a chance you can blow the seals at some point with the extra flow and extra noise. The cats act as a silencer too lol.
