Hi, OK... totally lost now…

indicator issue…. They don’t flash, just stay on.. and if I leave them on the fuse blows.

So, I have LED’s all round, they all work because the alarm system on and off flashes all of them, the hazard switch works and they all flash.

It doesn’t matter what side I turn on it’s the same thing, but only that side turn on.

I’ve replaced the flasher unit and no change, I’ve also replaced the hazard switch and ignition still no change.

I’ve checked for resistance at the indicator switch and both sides good and no leak.

I pulled out the hazard fuse and tried again but same result.

I pulled the flasher fuse and jumped the power off the hazard switch to the indicators and the same thing, they stay on.

I measured the voltage from the supply to the indicators and it shows 12 volts + (engine off) with the ignition on but when I turn the ignition to acc it still shows a slight voltage. When the ignition is set to off no voltage…

I put the volt metre on the fuse box where the supply comes in and I get the same strange slight voltage…(with the acc on)

So I’d say a power leak from another supply before the fuse but after the ignition…

I’ve had the fuse box almost out and almost all the wires visible but still can’t find the fault.

Has anyone else had similar or knows what this could be…. Major hair loss imminent.. :)

Did you change the flasher relay for one which is designed for leds? The load is far less on leds therefore normally flash really fast without it.

I would take out/disconnect each led indicator bulb and try again, you may have a short at one of the bulbs.

No, I have got one ready but didn't want to risk burning out out lie the old one, so using the standard one as it seems to be more resilient, not worried about the fast flash.

would the LED's light up even if there was a short at one of them?

cheers.

They light up because there seems to be a short, then blows the fuse. As i mentioned take them all out and replace one by one, till you find the culprit.

The relay would only affect the flash rate, so shouldnt be losing a fuse because of it. Check the 501bulb leds as its possible the 2 wires on the base may be touching or one may be shorting across the 2 terminals of the bulb holder.

After re reading your post again, it seems that you have tried most of what i suggested, your problem may lay at your indicator stalk, you may have a dry joint or short there.

Failing that, have you checked behind the fusebox in the footwell, for corrosion on the board?

cheers,

indicator stalk shows resistance fine on each side and no leak back the other way, but I will try a bypass today to confirm.

fuse box pulled out enough so I could see behind it and it looked fine.

check the coonectors in the passenger footwell as well , as i had loads of weird electric faults when the passenger side targa drain leaked all over the connectors in the top lefthand side of the passenger footwell. It had been leaking since before it bought the car and the connectors in that area were well and truly fubar'd.......ended up having them rewired.

thanks, worth a look... it did just do the drain hose on that side a few weeks back and checked them but they seemed OK... might have to have another look....

thanks..

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

i feel such a :xxx:

i didn't put the new LED flasher unit in because I was afraid it would blow like the old one.... just did and BINGO all work fine....

so there must have been enough resistance to work the hazards but not the indicators...

I will do a test later on with filament bulbs in and the standard flasher unit to prove it's OK...

good call, cheers... :thumbup1: :clap::punk:

AAAAAAAAAAAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......

worst fears.... half way up the motorway this morning the indicators stopped working again....

I assume the fuse is blown again and I pray that the flasher module is still OK (but I doubt it) ... another £17 down the drain....

back to the drawing board...

Mmmmmmmm, I may have found the problem... front near side indicator bulb holder pushing on the intercooler rad.... wire, even though countersunk into the plastic rim still managed to have a bit of bare wire.

crap job at fitting the intercoolers... I'll have to have the bumper off at some stage and do them right....

Ok now time will tell... all known appendages crossed...

thanks to all who gave advise.... :)
