Hi there...

I'm wondering if anybody has done or considered a decent diesel conversion for the Z?

I've always wanted 1, I've had 3 200sx's a supra and a few other "fun" cars over the years. The only reason I haven't brought 1 recently is because I have to travel a fair few miles and fuel economy is a big thing lately.

Sooooo... My question is... Are there any decent diesel engines that will fit easily enough into a Z and will the cost outweigh the savings?

Cheers people

:-)

Anyone here imagine themselves using £7600 of Petrol in the lifetime of owning their Zed's?

I've already done £9000 and I've not driven it since 2009 ! So that was when fuel was significantly cheaper. In fact when I first had the Z it was about 58p per litre ...

I think its a good idea and would love to see it happen. after driving my 330d im a massive fan of its power. I would love to drive the 335D and re map it that would fly and i would say be quicker than a zed.

14/19mpg in the zed to about 40/50mpg in the BM you would soon start to get your money back and Diesel engines are so much more reliable :)

I think its the most ridiculous idea ever!!

If fuel costs are a problem, instead of spending £1000+ doing an engine swap, buy a diesel pug 106 for £400 and use it as a daily runner. Keep the 300 for weekends etc.

If you dont want 2 cars, why not buy an NA?

Why go to all the trouble of buying a 20+ yr old, probably knackered japs sports machine, ripping its heart out, sticking in another old lump just to save a few £ on fuel? I dont see any sense in it at all

Some great diesel's cars out there as they have come a long way in power but have you ever seen a diesel Ferrari or Lamborghini (apart ftom the tractor)

Super car looks, super car power and super car sounds. Keep to the faith and high octane and keep the Devil's fuel out of performance cars:rockon:

350+mph

It can go backwards in time = so that makes it slower

it can go forward in time = so that means it can go faster

but the laws of karma mean that they both equal each other out and therefore the Back to the Future Delorean on average travels at 0mph (Spielberg stated 88mph but we all know that Hollywood have a tendency to exagerate)

anyway we're both wrong because everybody knows that the quickest shifting car in the world is a Scooby, parked up in Liverpool with the keys still in the ignition...

Dam I cant beat that mate but at least the Scooby is high octane so petrol wins:thumbup:

That happened on an episode of Secret Millionaire...the film crew were loading the wagon whilst the millionaire was sat in the passenger seat, and then some scroatbag climbed in and drove off

*and the Scooby in Liverpool had just undergone a Diesel engine conversion by the way, because it was economically more viable in the long run (though he is considering LPG)

A decent lpg kit with appropriate tank and everything in between other than installation will cost around £700 with a flashlube system(as lpg is a dry burning fuel and can cause valve seat recession).Im yet to do mine as a bit of fun really and will be putting her through the dyno. When i get round to it:tooth:

Back on topic, in principle a modern BMW top line diesel engine conversion makes a sound argument as (when remapped) can give more power and torque than the stock VG30DETT. But in principle, communism works......

.....in reality it just is not worth the cost of the engine, running gear and associated labour to fit the damn thing into a 300zx. Not to mention the increased insurance premiums because you have made a highly unusual modification to the ZX........

Best bet (if you want a fast and efficient diesel) is to buy said BMW 335 or 535 diesel car as a daily driver and keep the 300zx on a classic policy as a weekend fun car. You don't buy a 20 year old 3.0 twin turbo for its fuel economy - but for the thrill of owning something different, fun and non-conformist. Honestly, you would not buy a 1962 E-type Jag or Aston DB5 and drop in a modern diesel engine "for economy" so why do it with a 300zx....???

Richard:biggrin:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
