Guys,

I started to remove the engine from my Z yesterday and have removed all the ancillaries and got to the point where I've unbolted the engine mounts (each side of engine).

Prop is still in gearbox at the moment (how does this come out - does it just pull out?)

Is there a mount at the back of engine? If so, where? I can't seem to see it.

Anything else? I'm trying to remove it with gearbox attached - do I need to drop subframe?

Cheers

take the prop off the diff and then it will slide out the G/box.

No mount at the rear of engine.

Subframe needs to be dropped slightly which is 2 bolts either side iirc jujst loosing them to end of threads should be enough and jack up the car.

Drain the G/box of oil too otherwise plug up the prop hole or you will end up with oil everywhere

Ive taken 5engines out and never once needed to drop the subframe. Split the gearbox and its a whole lot easier.

But it makes it sooo much easier to get to the top bell housing bolts

Personally I think separating the engine an box is a better way of doing it ( yes the top gearbox bolt are a pain but drop the box mount and with all ancillaries off the engine will give you room to put 3 1/2 extentions together and then it's easier) it avoids the scratching, snagging and cursing of getting a large engine and box from a small bay, IMO it's more professional

delete the EGR and you casn get the top 2 bolts from the top simple and one of my top recommendations to delete :) Also on re reading it i know you have to drop the subframe slightly to get the engine out with the box staying in but dont think you need to if you are pulling it all out in one

I agree mate, anybody that says taking the box out is easier than undoing a pinch bolt on the steering u/j and undoing 4 crossmember bolts is clearly deranged imho ! its a massive no brainer.
