dibs?

So what's happening with this dibs in selling parts? As I called dibs and it got ignored and a mod bought the parts.

Does this not stand anymore? Just so I know for next time when dibs are called ill just ignore and proceed to buy even if he or she is online to close the deal. I was waiting for a price so could not close the deal so called dibs.

From a personal point of view ive never got the whole dibs thing (never seen it on any other forums ive been on), and I think the first one to pay up or make a firm offer gets the item......otherwise the seller could be left waiting for the dibber to make up their mind and make payment when the item could have been sold to someone else that has the money waiting.just my 2p's worth :)

There wasn't a price so how could I buy I can't wait online all night or days waiting for the seller to come back online. Reason why I called dibs! Anyway just so I know now dibs doesn't count. Buy buy buy!

Thanks Dan

you know what its like ..if your not fast your last......ive lost out myself like that calling dibs ...couldnt get back in touch with the seller and when i did he had sold it the same day i called dibs to someone else on the other forum ...but as stated its up to the seller i supose ......life is a bitch sometimes

steve

Totally seller orientated that mate, some people don't do dibs, i try not to, i like first with the cash gets its. easier on selling, no offence to others who want dibs on it. but sometimes i just want the item gone rather than sitting around.

i will honor dibs though if its a well sort after item, but as stated at the end of the day, its seller orientated HTH

It was me who purchased the item. As the seller stated in the post, he wanted offers on the item, not dibs. I too have never really understood dibs anyway, if you say dibs, does that mean the seller has to wait until the buyer is ready to purchase? How long does the seller have to wait to receive an offer/purchase if someone calls dibs? What then happens if the seller looses a couple of sales, only to find the original caller of dibs backs out?

Sorry if I have offended anyone, that was not my intention at all.

If you really want the item, I will charge you what I got them for, £30.00 posted and you can have them. I would rather this than any ill feeling on the forum.

Cheers

Yea I understand if the for sale thread was complete. But in my situation there was no price so I couldn't close the deal. As you can see from the sellers reply it was a few hours later. I would of thought the (mod) buyer would at least wait for a reply from me as you can clearly see I'm waiting for a reply from the seller to close the deal. If mods are practicing these methods I guess this situation is going to always be a problem on the forum.

Well lesson learnt today no respect in the for sale section.

No hard feelings Dan

No hard feelings mate I was just a bit behind on the rules and how things work. Fair play I don't wish to take them off your hands.

Thanks Dan

I can assure you Dan that mods are not in any way privileged when it comes to sales on the forum. We are in exactly the same situation as all members of the forum. I personally don't like dibs for the reasons that have been stated but at the end of the day it is up to the seller what he or she does with the item for sale.

I think Slick Pete has the right idea with his no dibs, first to pay attitude towards sales.

Just my tuppence worth.

Nice to see it is sorted Dan and great offer Ian to sell them on to Dan:thumbup1:

There was no price because the seller wanted offers. No-one had made an offer to him at the point that I made him an offer.

As stated, if you want the item, pay me £30.00 posted and you can have it. I honestly thought that the seller made you an offer of if you help him with some issues on his car then you could have them for free, that you were not interested in the item with that offer he made you. I really, really don't want any bad feelings at all on the forum, I'm not that type of person, please if you want them just give me what I paid for them, probably get me out of trouble with the wife anyway.....lol.

I have to say I'm with Dan on this one, and I would have done the same as him. I hate the 'offers' posts as you dont know where to pitch, he merely asked the seller what sort of figure he wanted for them. I appreciate where you are coming from too Ian, just think the seller should have responded with £30 delivered, with Dan having first refusal.

Hi 300zx 666 I seriously have no problems with you in anyway. I'm just stuck in the forum old days of dibs. I just looked at the thread again and see offers at the end of the thread. I honestly didn't see that originally. It may of been added after I read it as the thread had been edited I'm not sure but anyway I don't wish to upset you or the seller. But I do find these unofficial rules confusing as they change in every situation of a sale thread

Sorry Dan

Cheers Gary, last thing I want is to upset the great things that people on this forum do for each other. I will never get sick of saying this, but I have never been a member of any car club/forum where the members are willing to go out of their way to help a fellow Zed owner, it blows me away every time I see someone has done something and gone out of their way to help.

Case in point, I, for the last 7 Saturdays, yep, 7 Saturdays have gone over to Keith's (KJZ32) with something or other with my Zed, and for those 7 weekends he has given up his time and expertise to help me. It now looks as though Keith will not have his own car ready for Japshow on Sunday (sorry Keith), and I feel really guilty about that, as if he hadn't have sorted my Zed for me, he would have well had his own Zed ready.

This is the type of spirit that is shown on this site on a daily basis, and it's this that blows me away every time I see it.

I don't mind the dibs thing, we've had that for donkeys and it's never really been a problem.

No problem buddy, I really have no wish to upset anyone at all. Please accept my apology. I will look at a thread more carefully in the future. I feel a group hug coming on.....lol.....

I saw the sale this morning and was gonna start a similar thread but it wasn't working on my phone. I haven't read it all but im with Dan as I think there should be a certain amount of courtesy from buyers when others have an intrest and dibs. I remember someone on this thread had their knickers in a twist when they were asking about an item and I then said I would have it. On that occasion I backed out of the buy wasi wrong to do that.

So your saying that I had my knickers in a twist because I had asked a question about that EBC (which is working great by the way) and you jumped in and said I'll take it before the seller had responded. And then you say that your with Dan as he called dibs first? So which is it?

The seller in our particular case turned round and said first to pay gets it, I was first. End of!

lol to be technical you didn't call dibs on it and a price was up for it. This on the otherhand is different as Dan clearly wanted it as he stated.

Oh that occasion you spat your dummy out when I said I would have it.

And whos spitting there dummy out now! This thread was going well with everbody getting on but I guess there are some with a different agenda.

I haven't read it all but im with Dan as I think there should be a certain amount of courtesy from buyers when others have an interest and dibs. It is totally up to the discretion of the seller, personally as i said i try not to do dibs, due to these very reasons. but i remember a certain £2 zed that got sold on here when the person buying already had a fully working one, i was struggling at the time getting the N/A i had sorted out, in fact it was looking more like i needed to do a shell change, i didn't expect anyone to be backing out on that deal. and neither should anyone else.

If some one can get funds to the seller quicker than another person, why shouldn't he be allowed to sell to that person for fear of offending? just because someone jumped in and shouted DIB's, doesnt mean the seller has to automatically honor that system, may be if people actually found out the gentlemen's agreements the seller might adhere to first (IE would he accept dibs or not?) then maybe people wouldn't get offended when the guy selling just wants to get the cash and get the part sent off.

I seem to remember that it was you that had the hissy fit about it not me, especially when other members told you I was first.......

As there was no dibs on that thread which as I have stated I believe should be the right thing. I suggest you go and look at the thread as I remember a certain amount of f ing and such directly after my post. That's if it hasn't been edited.

I am not spitting my dummy out about it Gary as I am quite happy to go and buy new just stating now steams has changed his view when he is not involved. Although I wouldn't expect direct jests from you with your position in the club.

Sorry I dont jest I stick to the facts and maybe thats why people put there trust in me to look after there intreasts. Plus my position in the club forces me to comment in threads when I need to this of course does not please everbody but it goes with the job. Trying to keep the peace comes at a price.
