Hi Guys

Long time no see hahahaha

I have been lurking around ;)

I am hoping for some IT help? my son decided to format his laptop as it was running very slow so put the recovery disk in and booted it up, it goes through the motions and fomats the drives but gets to 16% and then errors out for wont go any further??

Is it knackered or can something be done as its driving me crackers!?

It runs Win 7 and is a Toshiba

Beer for anyone than can help fix it for me.

Cheers

Mike

the recovery disk is for when you have trouble getting into the OS, or when you need to repair the OS, the fact the hard drive is now wiped, means there is no OS, you need the install disk, but as its a laptop it will be OEM Windows 7 install disk you need from Toshiba, you would be better off seeing if there are any windows 7 install disks on ebay for cheap.

Other option is, see if there is a USB version of it on the Toshiba website if the disk cant be read, you can do installs from windows vista and 7 using USB pen drive.

Also - try and clean that CD/DVD with soft material .. CD/DVD drives can be very sensitive sometimes .. just like me around my Zed ..

Ill give you the best advice

forget about windows.

go to ubuntu.com and check it out. the laptop will run better than before.

Love that hehe...

Mike, if your struggling bring it over if you want. More than likely a duff DVD that the image is stored on, what version of win 7 is it? I'm sure we can soon find a disk to reinstall and use the code from the bottom of it and get it sorted if thats what you want?
