My Z passed its mot today but the tester advised it may not get through next year, I already know it needs two sills on it, what else is likely to be gone underneath, I know its impossible to say but from maybe your past experiences - does a rotten 300zx underneath usually mean a £500 repair bill or is it likely to be more terminal?

Only reason I am asking is I cannot get it on a set of ramps until next week and I can see some sleepless nights coming my way :( :( :(

Sorry to hear this :( It's impossible to say on how much it will cost to fix without seeing it mate. On the bright side tho' if it was terminal the chances are you would have failed the MOT.

Mine is in being done now mate, rear of the sills in front of the wheels, u can get replacements for these, and I'm re-routing the targa drain pipes so they don't drain into the sills ! Also behind rear wheels not good either so been cut out and new steel welded in.

Replacement sills were £190, seeing as these being done I'm having the whole car repainted and undersealed, so best part of £1,400 ! :( but she right for yrs then :)

So unless really bad then not terminal, who ever u get to do it then make sure they check it all, mine looked like very minor at the start, til we started digging ! Lol

I've read your above blog before Redwine and it scared the crap out of me lol! Luckily my slicky seems fairly solid...touch wood!

Only way to find out the extent, is remove the rear outer sills, trust me it will show way more. then remove front seats and look under the carpet to the floor. mine was like redwine's but not as bad, just saving more to have the it welded with all new sills, arch's etc. but at least i know its all been removed.

Borrow or buy a borescope, then you can have a look inside the cavities of the car. I have used one with a 7mm diameter tip to look at several cars recently. You can see into sills, box sections, door/roof pillars and chassis legs. What an eye opener!

The zed has 3 or 4 skins/ layers inside the sills and trying to assess the condition without a scope is just guess work.

Good luck.

This was mine last weekend :(

All welded now, but needs finishing now.Earlier this year it had both rear quaters done as they had completely rotted away, the front crossmember was refabricated as well as a few other places. The sills are being finish the weekend after next along with a scab on each rear arch and a few bits around the rear lights. If you find a good welder most things are repairable......just depends how far you want to go!. :)

Just had a quick read of that mate, and that is some awesome work and dedication there!!

Cheers Hollings,

Hopefully it will help people contimplating the same.

Hi Rebel scum,

Looks like your seat mount reinforcement plate is coming away, did the drivers side on mine.

It had virtually rotted through. Could not see the total extent until I stripped it back.

Maybe something the MOT guys will pull you up on?
