hi all, after listening to luke and buying the blanking kit for the egr,can someone explain what u get by removing it?

or is it just another way to clear some pipework from the engine bay?

ive read what it actually does but still dont understand wwhat i will gain by removing it???????

surely nissan didnt just over engineer the 300zx there must of been a good reason to put this part on the car?jay

EGR is just there for emission control purposes, it lowers combustion temps to reduce NOx emissions.

Although there is no real "gain" to removing it there is just one less thing to go wrong - EGR is generally only used at part load throttles - if it fails it could cause running issues at idle speed or under hard accelleration.

arguably as EGR reduces combustion temperature you could actually be more prone to det - although as it is only operating at part load this is unlikely to be a real issue on a turbo engine running on full boost!

Unless I am very much mistaken, I think the only gains may be weight lose and less things to go wrong.

If I understand the initial purpose correctly,

it introduces re cycled exhaust gasses into the combustion chambers so as to keep the combustion temperatures from escalating excessively during enthusiastic driving. (May also aid emissions)

Dam it, to slow again!!

Also with it gone you can get to the top 2 gearbox bolts from the top of the engine making it easier to remove. That plus less vac pipes to leak and a tidier engine bay

it introduces re cycled exhaust gasses into the combustion chambers

our old (2008) had this. believe it or not, removing it made the car run cooler and perform better. also aided fuel economy. not saying it would do the same, or be as noticable on the zed, but may be of interest...

the EGR caused alot of Problems in modern cars these days anyways ...

it was once of the first things i did to my Ford and Zed ...

the coolant pipe bypass mod is ditching all of the coolant pipes & hoses under the plenum - this makes the plenum removal a lot easier & reduces the risk of coolant leaks from all the pipes & hoses. The pipes are there to heat the throttle bodies to prevent icing - not really a problem unless you travel to Siberia a lot!! :D

BTW the site on the link above has loads of helpful links to various mods, deletes & bypasses for the Zed :)
