Which brake kit is the best value for money?

 

I'm expecting to be running just short of 400bhp at the wheels when I get it finished so I need advice .

What is the most adequate brake setup for this power level?

I've looked into recon my calipers and upgrade disks and pads

Looked at brembos from the skyline

Looked at the expensive big brake kits most the uk traders are selling

 

What would on your experience be the most suitable setup

I'm looking for the most cost effective, but if I'd be best with the more expensive setup then I'll find the extra cash

So guys what do you think blow a shitload or don't bother and just get the best out of the stock setup

Is say the skyline or 350z brembos are fine. Are you going on track? That always adds demand on brakes. I have the R33 brembos, with ferrodo da2500 pads and dba discs and they've been fine on road and track. And I'm running over 400bhp.

Think I'd probably upgrade at some point but they're serving me well.

350z front Brembo setup is easy to fit, just need to drill caliper bolt holes on the hub from 12mm to 14mm.heres mine with 18" forged Rays from a 350 :)

350z-brakes are great for advanced streetuse, got them too

for track youll find nothing "cheap"

i went for the K sport big brake kit with 8 pot calipers front and 6 pot rears ..probably over kill but my choice was more for aestetics ...the evo brembo , 350 and r33 brakes are ample, even the stock calipers if overhauled on bigger discs will stop you well with DS2500 pads

 

change the fluid and put braided steel lines on and a bigger servo with the bremobo upgrade and you will stop on a sixpence

i already have the uprated discs(black diamond i think),not sure tbh and same for pads.still remember the brakes being shit tho even with uprated discs on stock calipers.lol my pain in the but is in the last 3 house moves id took the calipers off the front and i think i lost em,i was gonna recon them myself ..done it bfr but now if i have lost them do i waste money on getting a 2nd hand set and reconing them or pay the extra for brembos or go big brake kits????? dilema dilema lol

shame last year i let slip a set of brembos off john dixon grrr.i had a car crash after having a blowout on the motorway,so getting online was last thing on my mind while sitting in hospital,then money went on buying another car quick .

that crash was a right bad timing thing as it was then that i bought tubs,a new interior and lots of other bits and bobs to get my zed back ,its took a year to get sorted to start sorting the zed again

lol this year i have a wedding to pay for(my lass has demanded it )and my zed to get running.

I went for the R33 GTR upgrade - they are getting cheaper now & worth keeping an eye on ebay for. Direct bolt on job.

I got the discs (324mm) as part of a package off a member off here, but you can get EBC ones for around £170 off ebay and the Brembo calipers I got for £300 the pair off ebay.

for Road use, the GTR Brembo setup is a fine option.

 

You want them from a R33 GTR, or R34 GTR - Front and rear.

 

The 350z setup is exactly the same, except they tend to cost more and the Rears do not fit.

ive been watching ebay for a while:)

im in no mad rush so i'll get some calipers when they become available,id prefer a big brake setup but as usual its down to pound notes.

Im in the process of doing my upgrade, with just GTR33 brembos on the front.

 

Do you really need the rears to match?

Is there any gain apart from matching?, and are they a straight swop and boltup job?

Do you need different bolts like the front?

id of thought the backs are not a must and a load more of a carry on to fit??,must admit ive never even looked at the rear brakes
