why ? smithy was a good guy with good parts, danny i didnt really get to no but seemed to get the market cornered on ss parts

Well thats just it, there isnt a big demand for car specific goodies, with a relatively small market base and im sure ebay and US suppliers helped the decline.

Smithy also sold his zed

That's why I stopped selling carbon. I was supplying to certain companies in the states until they copied my design .to say I was a tad upset by them is a understatement .

I also helped a lot of the traders with cheap gear and they never once done me a cheap deal

Tight arses lol

I can't believe smithy sold his zed either

Jay

Smithy closed quite a few years ago, Danny took over his business but with economic conditions and competing trade from Ebay and International suppliers he eventually had to shut down the business too.

ive bought off Smithy And Danny Zatt ..met Smithy at mine his zed was apure workhorse then though and not the lovely monster it became..someone got a real bargain with that car ...still keep in touch with Danny every now and again both top blokes....such a shame they stopped trading especially the chrome dress up parts like the big fuse covers etc..... sad days :(

Shame . The forum is poorer for the loss of good guys like them. Not only in what they sold but also their experience with the cars.

Cheers jay neperformance ltd carbOn fibre king lol

Hehe I've still got a full set off Danny which I never fitted. I can't wait for me zed to be finished so I can get the bits in the car

Absolutey spot on, Smithy was a legend in the parts supplies he dealt with, he had a great business ethic and knowledge but he also had the best of the best times customer wise, Danny had big shoes to fill when he took over the business but sadly times and trading changes resulted in Danny calling time.

This is also true and what we ALL need to realise is there is a degree of responsibilty of a business`s customers to support that business if they want to benefit from the traders experience and hard work and using Ebay etc. was not supportive, the very reason we stopped selling new after market parts years ago.

agreed jeff

some lads would be up shit creak if it was'nt for the experience of guys like yourself, smithy, luke and i could name a dozen others .

the 300zx is a nightmare to get the smallest problem diagnosed which is why 99% of local garages **** cars up or even wont touch them.

in the past 20 years if it wasnt for the advice from guys like yourself i wouldnt still have my zed, without a doubt it would of been scrapped .saying that ive made mistakes taking my car to local garages who thought they knew what they were doing,i must of wasted at least 10 k on having work repaired after leaving my car with shit mechanics rather than bringing the car to people like yourself.well u live and learn lol

i think the biggest problem for most zed owners is getting our cars to you!! you dont fancy moving up north to middlesbrough do u lol

Been omnipresent would be cool, the times that been said to me for each and most regions in the UK:laugh: Respect to you for keeping the faith, comitted owners like yourself and others will become the mainstay of 300 zx business as time rolls on.

Jeff

Very true Jeff ..in life it is always better to stick with people you know do a good job, and without support from loyal customers and enthusiasts even long standing companies like yours would probably just fade away as would the cars which would be a crying shame

i think the reason the 300zx even tho smaller(scene) is still about, is 100% down to guys like jeff and luke.

thanks god(or should that be thank the zed god lol)

I have to say I've dealt with both paul and danny a few times. Paul (smithy) helped me a lot when I first got my 1st zed. Danny has also helped me loads over the years. Both are great guys.

Ultimately, there was just too much competition and there's only so much extra someone will pay for someone's service. Sad times to lose both these guys. They are in my opinion 2 of the beat traders we ever had. Don't think you'll have ever seen a bad word about either.

Hi Jay! It's been a long time! Hope you're well fella.

I did indeed take over Smithy's Place from Paul, expanded the S/S product range and combined it with DTA-Motorsport (UK) products. Things were going well for some years but ultimately the downward economy, competition from ebay and in particular American resellers caused an unsustainable drop in sales for me. I put a lot of effort and money in to the business to try and keep it going as long as possible but at some point you've got to draw the line. It was a very difficult decision but one that had to be made. What really didn't help was that all the S/S product designs were copied by a company in North America ...

At the end of the day I can honestly say that I've enjoyed spending time talking to every customer and meeting a lot of them (and members on here) at meets like Japfest and JAE. Those were the good days!

All the best fella.

Dan

Hi Dan, good to see your still about. Hope life is good for you at the mo !!!!
