pulling my engine to fit my new turbos...

 

ive removed everything (all hoses wires etc) removed ac pump alternator, pas, exhaust, starter

 

2x motor mount nuts, and 10x transmission bolts, but the engine still wont budge?

 

whats still holding my engine in?

 

what have i missed? is there a trick or something?

 

not touched the steering am i supposed to remove something?

 

 

any help would be great spent the last 2 hours fighting a rusty motor mount just to find it still don't come out, bored of scratching my head now....

You say you have removed the gearbox bolts, have you actually removed the gearbox from the engine or are you trying to lift it with the gearbox still married up to the engine? as that will stop it coming out. the engine is only really held in place by the 2 engine mounts and the gearbox. but you do need to seperate the gearbox from the engine as you will have the clutch housing in the way, or if its a auto the torque converter.

how do i remove the torque converter?

drop the front subframe..undo the bolts ill fall maybe 6 inch..enough clearance for the oilpan..

is there any info on dropping the front sub frame?, id much rather do that then drop the box.

 

assume id need to get it the zed aligned afterwards...

 

i miss my s13 id have had the engine back in by now lol...

Torque convertor needs undoing, there are 4 x14 mm bolts that can be accessed by removing the bracket that connects the lower part of the bell housing to the engine on the passenger side, undo each one and rotate the engine by hand via the crank bolt until all are removed.

thanks jeff, do i still need to drop the subframe?

if your keeping the clutch assy on the engine the droping the subframe has to be dropped as theyrs not enough room to pull the engine forward and up

to drop the sub frame look under the wheel hub youll see the tension rods thell be 2 bolts on each side romeve these and youll need to push down on the sub for it todrop

seems a bit of confusion going on here,

 

First of all, either do as jeff said, you have already undone the bolts that hold the gearbox to the engine so id be extremely careful of lowering the sub frame.

 

The torque converter bolts are accessible from the rear drive plate (would be the fly wheel) with nut head facing towards the radiator, undo the 4 bolts holding the torque converter on and the engine should come away from it. other wise you will have to bolt the gearbox back onto the engine and lift the gearbox out with it.

just undo the 4 bolts mate its so much easier then messing with the subframe

Dont forget you may have some residual burn off for a while.

yeah, but its just so embarrassing when your zeds as loud as mine people look then they see plumes of blue smoke... and not from the tires...:blush:

I rocled up in cornwall looking cool when I first got mine, ladies checking us out etc, just with that ****ing fan belt went squelly spent the rest of thevtrkip squeklling and wondering how to tighten it.

mine did that waiting to get into japfest the pas belt started squealing every time i turned the wheel, think it must be a zed thing to get people looking by any means necessary:thumbup1:

totally agree, trying to look good giving mine some boost only for the dreaded goose honk from my recirc valves to start, its very loud lol
