I thought it was about time that I started a build thread for my SWB TT manual, as my old LWB TT manual build was a big fat failure (read: ended up getting cut up into bits on my driveway and carted off to the scrappy in the back of a pikey's transit van!!)

I figured that this time, rather than give a step by step commentary of its progress (which can be depressing when progress comes crashing to a halt) this time I decide that I'd build it first and when it was pretty much ready to hit the track, only then would I write it all up afterwards..

Here's the old girl as of yesterday afternoon, about 99% ready to rock:

I'd like a reliable 500-550, depending on how it go's

I've still got a box of bits here for you mate, they're in the garage out of anybody's way so can stay there until you need them, no hurry bud

ASD hydro imported from the US, I opted for this as it's the same one that 'D-Mac' (Darren Mcnamarra) is running in Formula Drift

The clutch swap was long over due thanks to a few motorway/duel carriageway encounters that effectively killed my old one

Nice work Pez!!

Should be a nice track weapon. Glad to have contributed! ;-)

sorry mate, in the end I didn't think that pink fluffy dice went with satin black....but thanks anyway :tongue_smilie:

no that Greddy fmic is a really good fit, many thanks bud :thumbup1:

Like it.

Reckon your hydro is too far away tho and you'll just end up bending it 'cos of the angle. It's always easier pulling it towards your body rather than inline with the cars x axis. Mine goes in a similiar place but on drivers side of the tunnel. It's not as big as yours ;P and sits nicely between gearstick and steering wheel for easy 'panic wanding'! lol

ooo, also have you got any lock mods? SWB is pretty snappy and Z standard lock is sooo poo I'd recommend at least some lock spacers (my current setup), offset rack spacers are better (Cowpattmatt is running these on his Z in the BDC at the mo (although can damage rack end seals). Front subframe mods to move the whole rack forward and hub mods would be best (I'll get round to this eventually!)

Well that is a million miles away from what Gonzo handed over to you what seems like just a few months back! If I'm honest, I think it's a bit of a shame you couldn't have found a less-nice example to abuse on the track, but if you're going to invest all that time and effort, it's logical you want to start from a sound original motor. Certainly has plenty of attitude - I really hope it's still registered for the road too? I think anyone seeing that much intercooler closing in on their rear-view mirror would know to get the fook out the way! Not that you would be hammering it, obviously!

Good work fella, hope to see it in action sometime (awesome standby engine spec too - you must have some very good friends, or very deep pockets!)

I'm running spacers on the rack at the mo' and opted for DW geomaster arms as the standard straight DW arms were catching on full lock. I'll see how I get on with this and will adjust accordingly

Christ that's one evil looking zed, those carbonetic clutches are the nuts, the only clutch I've ever bought to come with instructions on how to launch the car!!! Lol

Cheers bud,

and Yeah I know what you mean mate about it being a shame, but after the last project I decided that I wanted a sound base to work from and credit to Marty and the previous owners, this shortie' is immaculate.

I suspect that this engine won't last too long, especially in this heat, so I'd best get cracking and finish the other one off quick

as for deep pockets and friends  I have some good friends who have helped me and my business grow in a very short period of time, and their garages really are something to behold.

I'll try to do this build justice and get some seat time in sooner rather than later

can i rob the pic please :)

Fill your boots mate, though this was taken on my Blackberry so I'll try to get some better ones as soon as I've fitted the washer jets
