Any small spinner or plug will catch you trout mate. I'd recommend mepps to start with and add a few small plugs. Float fishing for trout, I would try first off with worms and maggots. Salmon are a very different beastie to catch though as they don't actually eat anything when they return to the river to spawn. They do all their eating at sea. So what you need to do to catch one is essentially annoy it to set off it's instincts so that it will grab your bait out of aggression rather than hunger. Not as easy as it sounds though.

To cover the water better set your self up an imaginary clock face with you standing in the middle. Start off by casting up stream at say 3.00 o'clock and work your way backwards until you get to 9. Vary the way you wind in as well by letting the lure drop through the water then quick wind etc. You can cover a lot of the water that way.

its funny you should sy clock face..the wee stetch i was on last night with the minnow lure i was casting from 10 through to 2 i was getting knockd alot-got one on striked then paniced coz well 10 year without catching a fish i forgot how to get it in

after i lost the minnow lure i changed to a spiiner with a red/white flash no luck after that.

tbh the river isnt really great for fishing till after the start of june..
