intercooler idea.

has anyone ever thought about running two stock side mounted intercoolers in parrel. ie two stock ones per turbo. the idea of increased sized sidemounts is obv to increase cooling via exposure and to allow easier flow thus reducing resistance. if you can t them so each stock one process half the air amount as per normal their would be half the restriction and twice cooling capacity.......

any input guys? i recon theres room in there.....

i think it would be tight........i fitted Toyo uprated smic's and they are huge compared to stock ones, got to be getting on for nearly twice the size and had to delete the carbon canister on the passenger side to get one in.I would say that uprated smic's would be of more benefit and more practical than trying to get 4 stock ones in there.

Just to give you an idea my boost was set at 14.5psi with stock intercoolers........after fitting the Toyos it hit 17psi at the same rpm and i had to turn the boost controller down!

The stock intercoolers are seriously restrictive, so although you may get double the cooling you will still have the restriction (X2 now!)

you would not believe the difference in the core from stock intercoolers v uprated ones.

photos do not do the difference justice but I posted some on my upgrade thread here: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?152055-My-ARC-intercooler-upgrade&highlight=arc+intercoolers

im not talking about running them in series btw, so they would be processing only half what they normally do. so restriction should be reduced not increased if you see what i mean. i thought about this quite quickly.

ive also found this

should be the same size in and out and the core is huge. getting them in there could be difficult, i looked at the ones from the audi 1.8t as these are common as muck and uprated ones are cheap. but theyre only 2" in and out :(

ah - ok, if you are talking about running them parallel (some serious pipework now needed!) then the restriction would be shared - but you still need room for them to flow air for cooling efficiently & you have also increased the lag due to increased pipework etc.

best just to change them if you are going to all that effort IMO! :)

For a couple of hundred quid plus shipping you are probably better off getting a pair of Godspeed SM's from the states that you know will fit!
