As title, I've seen a few forums that have a live chat room where you can pop in and chat to anybody else in there....I think if we had one it might be a quicker way of asking the odd question rather than having to start a new thread and waiting for replies etc

We did have a chat room but nobody used it..

I remember an old thing called "the telephone" - I used to pick it up, call someone & speak live with perfect clarity.

 

Now we wait for ages waiting for people to reply electronically - thats progress for you :lol:

 

ps - we also used to have a live chat room!

we used to have one... tbh if you ask a question you usually get an answer within a few minutes, unless its a real obscure one then it'll take a while until usually Yowser answers it. lol

Not sure if anyone said, but we used to have one... ;) Basically fun for a few days/couple of weeks then it got boring and that was that!

every few months there is a request for a chat room, its instsalled and never used

 

ive seen live chat on the top of forums before but i think they are a waste of a forum, people post in chat and it isnt saved, nothing is posted in the forum and the forum becomes stale, also there is always trouble in the chat when a lot of people use it

most forums have live chat on home page, for sub'd members only.

The old chatroom was crap as it wasnt part of the forum.

As stellaz said, the biggest issue with having a chat bar at the top of the main forum page is people just ask questions in there for a quick easy answer, it effectively kills the forum as people think its easier to get a answer in the chat bar, thus questions that could be helpful to others are gone with in a few hours with no record of them and people would much rather sit in the chat bar than talk on the open forum.

 

Ive seen a few forums go down hill due to this.

I made 13,000+ posts in the "shout box" on STOC.com in just under 8 months lmfao - and your right, it was mainly answering questions.

 

what is it was just for subbed members? Just for a chit chat. and no tech support allowed in chat.

As much as i like chat systems I think it also detracts from the main forum, even if we did make rules to

the effect of no tech chat what's the point then as most chat on here is Z related of sorts and would be on topic.

 

We did have a chat function before but I just skipped it out after the upgrade to V4 of the forums as it was never

used.

 

What I like about the forums is you can come on here at anytime and if you've missed something then you simply

read up on the days events then join in, can't really do that on a chat system.

 

I'll put it to committee to bring it back but in my view it would be a waste of time as like the last one it will have

it's time when it goes live but then just fade away and never be used again.

i remember the days of the chat room lol had some very drunken laughs in there and i think i left my hat in there too lol
