I've heard people go on about Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 etc but can someone simplify what these generally cover and an approximate BHP figure for each? :blush:

Featured Replies

I don't think they are set in stone mate but I've always thought of it as the following;

Stage 1; Decat, Cone filter, EBC, Chipped ecu, upped boost to 14psi BHP anything from 320 to 380

Stage 2; Under drive pulleys, lighter flywheel, forged pistons, Bigger tubs, bigger injectors and a full flow exhaust. Plus a bit of weight loss, around 400 -500 approx

Stage 3; Even bigger tubs, Stand alone management, bigger injectors, nos, massive weight loss etc. 500+

These are how I think of the stages but I'm sure that there are a lot of other bits I've missed out on. And the bhp figures are just guestimates really.

thanks guys, I got the impression everyone's opinion on this seems to differ! Was just wondering where my car would sit when I've fitted all my goodies :thumbup1: not got forged pistons though lol.

and weight loss wont effect BHP obviously lol - Just looks a bit like stage 1,2 and 3 of Gran Turismo tuning lol.

I always thought (in general not just on 300zx)

This is a hugely varied thing, and varies in most opinions, this is my opinion based on the somewhat 11 Jap imports I have modded. It is a very basic list and a lot more work is involved than it looks. There will be parts I havent listed, as its of the top of my head, and havent gone through stripping engine in rebuilding it in my mind before writing it up.

Like I said this is generic, and BHP amounts are based on generic % increases.

Stage 1 [300bhp]: Reducing Weight to Drivetrain, Lighter pulleys, Fly wheel etc = around 5% extra BHP at the wheels 0% extra at the fly (making all other mods more worth while).

Stage 2 [330bhp]: is Stage 1 + Exhaust System and Induction Kit = 10% extra at Fly, (9% at wheels 8% if you havent done stage 1)

Stage 3 [365bhp]: is Stage 2 + Adjusting fuelling and boost etc i.e remap = Furher 10% extra at Fly, (9% at wheels 8% if you havent done stage 1) ( All stages from here need remaps)

Stage 4 [400bhp]: is all the above, plus prepping for higher boost, Intercooler, boost controller, wastegate, fuel pump etc... = Further extra

Stage 5 [500bhp]: all the above plus Forged Internals and increased boost = Further 25% gains at fly 21% at wheels

Stage 6 [600bhp+]: all the above plus upgraded turbo's = Further 20% + gains at fly, and 16%+ at wheels.

Was just wondering where my car would sit when I've fitted all my goodies :thumbup1: not got forged pistons though lol.

Nor have you got lightweight 3 piece rims :clap:

Seeing as you brought up the subject of wheels yet again :tongue_smilie: my rears are 10.5J, fronts are 9J, tried a bit of swopping and I have no chance of using those deep dish lips :no: guess I am stuck with these forever :thumbup: life is a biatch.

Phutumsch I love ur alloys, are they Racing Hart CR5s ? or CXs?

17" Work Equips bud thank-you.gif

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: LOL @ 17s!!!!!! :lol::lol:

Yeah I noticed some of the HP figures are a little high (unless they're US HP figures in which case that would explain it). Going by that list mine should be well over 500 but I know that's not right!

sounds good though :lol::lol:

All this stage 1 etc applies to Ford's more than anything. Especially the Cosworths as a set amount of mods actually gave you a certain bhp. In the Nissan world it all seems to differ

Yeah, the one I did is for the zed and is just a collection of what people have done to theirs.....
