A sad day.....but at the same time freakin' hilarious!!

I must admit that I am pretty gutted today has eventually arrived

I always had a soft spot for my old LWB TT and I'd worked bloody hard getting it almost to where I wanted it

220-1-1.jpg

then I made the fatal error of entrusting the old girl with a bunch of fookin' cowboys and that unfortunately was the beginning of the end

after several failed attempts at making the best of a bad situation, the other month I finally had to face the sad reality that the old girl had smoked her last tyre

so last Friday I recieved a phonecall from the Long Haired General (the wife) saying that somebody had knocked on the door and asked if we would sell the shell

for a second I hoped that somebody was willing to take it on as a long term project but alas no....they wanted it for scrap value

cue this morning.......

I answer a knock at the door expecting to be met with scrapyard crew with either a low loader or a trailer

nope!!!!

that would be a young lad in his mid 20's who suffers severe anxiety attacks (no seriously!!!)

and an 85 year old man wearing a shirt and tie

and in the background......a transit van (and not even a big transit van!!)

here begins the Laurel and Hardy act for the next 7 hours......

Me: "I'm telling you mate, it won't fit"

Old boy: "trust me"

CountyofHerefordshire-20120430-00868.jpg

Old boy: "Maybe a sledge hammer on the rear quarters will sort it..."

Old boy: "It won't fit?"

Me: *Face Palm*

Time for the big guns!!

CountyofHerefordshire-20120430-00870.jpg

To get it to this stage literally required Laurel and Hardy to break every possible health and safety rule in the book...we're talking village idiot stylee sawing of branch that he's sat on and coming very, very close to cutting through the angle grinder cable on countless ocassions

Me: "Would you like some eye protection and some ear defence?"

Old boy: *Looking at me as if I'm strange "No"

Me: "Right you are....I'll be back in a minute, I'm just going to grab a carrier bag to put your fingers in once you've cut them off!"

*Meanwhile young lad is hiding in the cab having another anxiety attack because (his explaination) he'd had a bad experience with an angle grinder before...

and there you have it...granted they had to make two trips but 1 x LWB zed in a not so LWB transit van

a bit of elbow grease and that'll polish out I'm sure :tongue_smilie:

I've got some video clips to upload, but it'll take a while

gutted as I say, but fresh start......and I've got another driveway to play with now

Jesus Christ that's mental haha. Although pretty sad at the same time. The black zed in the background is looking good mate.

i would of loved to of been there for the entertainment value, but then i would of hated to of been there for laughing me ass off at them for 7 hours and making them feel right uncomfortable.

though not the first time ive seen a car shell cut up and loaded into the back of a transit van.

Yeah got a couple of quid for it....in fact with the current zed prices I could probably go and buy myself another one on ebay!

The farce hopefully made it a bit less painful to see the end of that particular project. But onwards and upwards, looks like the shorty is really taking shape. :thumbup1:

You should have scrapped the car yourself though!

That was the intention but I know that I would have just kept putting it off

Comedy! But what a shame, looked a good shell actually!

Obviously put up one last fight, its gutting for us as the currant owners but Imagine back in 199x when someone was waiting for that car to arrive from the dealership so excited, it was brand new! To look at it there would probably bring a tear, if I ever had a brand new car I think it would to me!

Your right mate the shell was completely rust free

my son looked really gutted yesterday when he got back from school and realised what was going on, so I explained that a lot of the old car's parts had been transferred to the black SWB and what was left would be going to the big scrap yard in the sky....he thought for a second or two and then turned to his sister and explained that it was alright and that because some of the red cars parts were in the black one it's 'soul' would live on.....now that's deep for a 7 year old!

Classic mate, You should have asked the kid to tell you why he was so scared of the grinder.
