Hello peeps!

Well after fitting some new shocks yesterday as always there is another new problem to sort!! My passenger Door will not open!! Tried the handle on the outside and the inside and it just will not open... The internal lock looks like it's moving when I lock and unlock it with the central locking but it just will not open using any handle...

The million doller question is how can I take the interior door trim off while the door is shut!!! Im guessing a rod or something has come loose from the door release mechanism .

Really feel up creek without a paddle on this on, the passenger window still operates but don't wanna lower it too much incase something is in the way..

Really hope one of you nice people can help me! Cheers!!

How do you "Jimmy the lock" dude??! Sorry for being so thick but flicked it back and forth lots of times! You can hear the door lock doing something at the other end and even when you pull the interior handle you can hear it clicking at the far end but it won't open! Had the inner handle cover off and the door lock switch and handle both have there rods connected which still move...

I remember a few weeks ago when the passenger door was last open it wouldn't shut, it would latch onto the catch and just boing off!!! Remember moving the interior lock back and forth a few times and think when it was in locked position the door then caught and shut.. Just won't bloody open now! Will post up some video's of the clicking later...

How do you "Jimmy the lock" dude??!

Ok if anyone knows a way and would like to email me personally it's jonlowndes101@hotmail.com

Here is the video of me trying to open from the inside... Notice when I pan across to the door end you can here clicking from that area. It's not me on the lock or handel at the other end..

Have you tried lifting the door a bit when you try to open it. Not had the problem on the z but seen it on other cars where theres a little bit of wear in the lock or door hinges. The catch does not then clear the pin properly making it appear the door is stuck. Either lifting the door or a hefty thump from inside usually opens it. If something has detached from the mechanism then it's likely you are going to have to pull the door card out enough to get your hand in to operate it. On the plus side if you do damage the door card then it can be replaced relatively cheaply (2nd hand) if it's standard.

No, haven't tried that yet dude as it started raining just after a took the video.. Good idea tho, will give it a go tomorrow! My gut instinct tells me it's a lock fault rather than the hinge.. When the door was opening sometimes the central locking would lock the drivers but sometimes not the passenger door.. It would still open from the outside so when ever exiting the car I would always lock the passenger door from the inside before I get out then lock the drivers door with the central locking... Now it's lock shut! I guess some bang bang tactics with a bit of B/\stard, B/\astard, B/\astard! are needed!!

Might be worth getting someone to apply pressure on the door from the outside at the lock area at the same time as unlocking,

maybe the latch is miss aligned and fouling as it tries to release.

Worth trying this in conjunction with Ossian's idea of lifting the door.

Thats exactly what mine was doing, before I replaced the actuator, im not sure how easy it is to jimmy a zed but essentially using a coat.hanger to locate the rod that connects the lock to the actuator. Its just to the right of the key lock. Best of luck. I know one or two people on here have an do know how to do this so hopefully they will pm you. I suspect that the connecting rod has come off anat one end.

If you shine a torch in the gap witj the window down you will probally be able to see what im on about

Thanks dude, yeah can see the rods just about from taking the plastic interior door lock surround off.. Im hoping with the window down I might be able to see something! Just hope it doesn't rain today!!

The actual lock and actuator are located where the seat belt is in the door card.

Mine is UK spec so the seat belts are on the pillar and not the door unfortunately... :-(

Just a quick update on this, the Bugger has fixed itself!! When coming back from work the other day noticed the internal lock switch was sticking out a bit more than what it was. Pulled the release leaver and hey presto it opened!! Must have been all that rain we had freeing up something...

First dry day yesterday so took the door card off to have a look and all the leavers and rods for the release handle and lock we're all in place and none of the plastic clips were broken. Took the opertunity to lube everything up, all the moving parts.. So far so good, it opens, closes, locks and unlocks ok... Guessing it was something to do with the lock in the end sticking... I do love the way these car's fix themselves sometimes!! It must of heard me swearing at it!!!

Good news mate, I was wondering how you would sort this as all my ideas involved removing the door card. lol

I you haven't already done so, I would spray some wd40 into the lock face, there may have been a bit of crap in there sticking, and if not it won't hurt :)

Gary; Leprechauns mate, I would put a trap out to catch the little bugger.

Yeah was worried for a bit there mate, was thinking of getting out the electric cutter and cutting a section out of the door card for a minute! Guess the Z heard my idea and didn't approve... Just glad it free'd itself in the end so I could open it and lube everything up inside the door card (ooh err!)! Yeah Gary, Zed's can do wierd things over night!
