Strange sounds ?

When engine is running, there is a strange sound like a little miniature man slowly turning a handle in the engine somewhere (toward the left) like one of those raffle boxes with a few pieces of wood inside.

Hope this doesn't sound like I've cracked !

Does this sound normal or like something is on the way out ?

Also...I can hear the turbo(s) rotating at low boost - sounds like a hollow scraping sound. Is this OK ?

I have the same thing at start up sometimes, it only lasts a second or two, but i'll be buggered if a can work out where its coming from.

What noise is the little man making, is it "Help let me out its hot in here". wink.gif

Is it like a ticking noise possibly the injectors or hydraulic tappets.

Ive had other turbo cars where the turbo bearing has worn that much that the compressor wheel starts to scrape on its housing but it would squeal quite bad on high boost so you would probably know about it, could be the sound of boost leaking out from some dodgy connection.

I think he's a thermally stable little man!

It is a kind of gurgling sound. A slow dull clunky sound which cycles over and over, slowly.

Sounds like it could be the AIV - is this expensive to fix ?

theres a tech section on tt net about the gurgling in the AIV. i dont think it costs anythin to fix it biggrin.gif
