Tip to prevent rust in rear wheel arches

You may know this, but worth a mention...

The rim on the edges of rear wheel arches can hold a lot of mud/dirt which dries hard. This can of course hold water next to body and cause rust. So regularly check wheel arches and scrape out dirt with hands.

Stuart.

hmmmm...off to check me rear arches

But if you leave a build up of dry dirt around them then the salty water never actually gets to them and therefore protects them

So if you pack it with dry, waterproof dirt to start with then it shouldn't go rusty !

oh, of course that's called underseal ... biggrin.gif

No you should have no mud under there.

If they are clean then the water will reach it then try off within 30mins of it not raining.

With mud there, the mud will get wet and will remain wet for days. And you cant say that the mud will stop the water from reaching the metal. Mud soaks up water. As soon as it dries, 10 mins drive in the rain and it will be soaking again.
