Clutch Bite point very low

My clutch has a lot of movment before reaching the bit point. It moves 4 inches down very easily before getting hard and then I only have about 1 inch of movment left.

The bit point litterally just above the clutch being fully down.

Does it just need adjusting? Or is my clutch going?

sounds more like a hydraulic problem, try bleeding the clutch, poss a faulty clutch master/slave cyl - see if you can see any leaks.

still poss the clutch cover has broken, but not so likely.

Hi

Just had my clutch and slave cylinder replaced and it had to be bled to get all of the air out... before the clutch was to the metal but after bleeding and the air removed it was way up above the half way point!!!

Hmmm, maybe.

I know that I have to be really smooth with my gear changes now, I cant change quick becuae they have a habbit of crunching.

Stuart

you dont sound convinced!!!

the gears are crunching cos the clutch isnt disengaging the drive fully, if air is in the system you will have to push the pedal down further to disengage the clutch.

try bleeding it smile.gif

actually, as the clutch wears, the pressure plate moves further forward and the fingers on the cover moves out to maintain pressure, raising the biting point.

normally it will only drop down if something has actually broken in the cover.

oops, yes Paul you're right... smile.gif

well....you can still adjust the pedal and if it starts to get worse again, you probably have an air or a small oil leak in the hydraulic system.

I thought bit point gets higher as it wears out.

Any way.

While at idle on the drive, I pumped the peddle and the clutch get harder to its orginal way.

Any ideas? I think its an air lock.

i had this problem and what it was, was i fagot to check the fluid level (the litle on near the brake fluid) and there was none in just toped it up and bled it with the thing near the drivers side strut and was fine m8

I checked my oil level and it was empty. frown.gif

I filled it up now and it seems to be a lot better.

In a past tech post I posted about an oil leak near the flywheel/gearbox area but my engine oil wasnt going down.

I think its clutch fluid leaking. biggrin.gif Aint I clever.

Any one have ideas of what it could be leaking? Piping, slaver cylinder? If its something near the clutch area, am I better off replacing the clutch at the same time?

Thats why I had my slave cylinder changed as it was leaking and causing low bite point... basically it has to be changed for new if you can find traces of leaking... get it checked and replaced cost me £52.19 +m labour!!!
