My SWB Auto works fine when moving from first to second gear. but wont change up third. Yet if I remove my foot from the accelerator it seems to drop down to approx 1000 rpm and if I put my foot down again it start starts screaming in secong gear agian.

Did the auto box diagnostic which gave error code 3"TPS circuit disconnected". Went through all the fuses and found 1 blown, then cleaned the sockets on the TPS itself. Re-did the Auto boc diagnostic, gave me the all clear. Yrt problem remained.

Just got it back from mechanic today after him doing an auto box flush and checking all connections. Still the same problem .

I have heard this happen to others, any help much appreciated.

Have you tried resetting the systems by disconnecting the car battery for 30 mins? Worth a try. Also check the amount of play in whats called the throttle cables - the two metal cables at the front centre of the engine bay the one on the left is the one from the pedal and the one on the right is for the transmission clutch - make sure this one only has 1-2 mm's of play in it.

not completely true..

the left cable is for the cruise control and right one is for the pedal and has nothing to do with the transmission.

see if the trouble diagnosis in the online service manual is of any help..

http://300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi , section "automatic transmission", page 73 and 74

I think there's something wrong with the shift valve or solenoid.
