decats and mot guide

ive been trawling vosa and mot regulations, can anyone shed any light on the matter.

For 2012, for any vehicles that were made with a cat, it must be visible and working.

cant find the answers to if your decatted, what age does vehicle have to be, some areas state after 92, some state after 95.

deisels are not covered as its only a smoke test.

anyone who is decatted had an mot in the past few weeks.

ways around it.

it its for a 94 tt.

VOSA state for the new regulation for checking the presence of a cat:

On vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test, check the presence of the catalytic converter.

up to 95 the zed does not have a full cat test as it is not in the database & is only subject to a non cat test if it fails the BET test.

probably an ambiguous statement open to tester interpretation but as the Z32 does not qualify for a full cat test I would say it should not apply

Stu's is a uk zed so it will fail without cats :(

shouldnt do, as its not on the database so they wont know if it rolled out of the factory with cats on. though depends on the year as well. think it was after 92

yea, no difference to UK or import - the Z32 is not on the VOSA emmissions database so only subject to a non cat test if it fails the BET test (up to 95 when all cars must pass a default cat test)

cool thanks for the replys guys, Paul so am i reading it right, cars upto 95 as long as they pass a basic emmisions test, its good, but if it fails this test, then goes onto a non cat test. which it must pass.

if it then fails this, your knackerd, until you get cats back on.

I know it can pass the basic emmisions as it did last time, as it does not state on the database at what rpms it is limited too, rather than the fast idle test, basically the tester took it up to very high revs and held it there for 60 seconds, and passed no worries.

Hi Stu - heres a link to the full info I posted some time ago for emission testing a zed: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?27060-MOT-emissions-test-on-a-zed-(cat-test)

Basically cars upto 31 july 1995 reg date will first go though a default BET test (Basic Emissions Test) - if it fails then a vehicle specific cat test is carried out if there is an exact match in VOSA's database. - if not then a non cat test is carried out

full detail in the link above.

The physical check for cats being removed is new this year however, so there may be some confusion among testers!!
