At some point my car has been converted from auto to manual. I noticed that the engine ecu has automatic written on it. Is there any difference in the engine ecu's, could this be why my engine is playing up?

It's quite common on conversions mate, the auto ecu will run happily with either gearbox. The manual ECU won't work in an auto though.

What problems are you having with your engine?

Il see how much time ive got over the weekend mate we can pull yhe codes and dosome fault finding. As above the auto ecu shouldnt be an isue.

theres a wire that needs to be grounded on it, my old TT had this issue, the timing was retarded and it kept stalling at the lights, was boosting low too, speak to lee dent, hes a electrical genius and he sorted mine for me, im sure he can help you out mate.

If you use a auto transmission TT ECU you must eath out pin 21 on the ECU then retime the engine to 15 deg BTC.

thats the one... does the ecu not correct the timing for you? how would you go about changing the timing if its electronic? sorry if dumb question but.... i do wonder lol,

The autobox ecu advances the timing to compensate for the gearbox. To stop this happening you connect pin 44 to the neutral switch on the manual gearbox. The timing will then be set correctly for the manual box. Think Bob may have confused the pin 21 as that's a diagnostic pin ??
