Air con not cold anymore!

I'm assuming that the car has run out of coolant, but are there any tests I can run to check? I can't remember, but did the Conzult software have the ability to check the air con system?

Assuming that the coolant has run out, does anyone know anywhere in north London that could put more coolant in the system (I'd rather go somewhere that had seen a Z before).

Cheers,

Andy

Not the coolant - its the air con needs re-gassing wink.gif This will cost in the region of £80 as long as it is just a top up...

Check the air con compressor belt is still attached first though wink.gif

Got a piccy of where the belt is? I heard there is somewhere that shows the level of gas, where is it?

My air con did start to run hot once, this was partially caused by the electric cooling fan not working. If the car is running hot for any reason then the air con does not work well.

Even when I had it re-gassed & checked it didn't make any difference. I got it gassed at a place in Woodford on the industrial estate at the top of Roding Lane South where it meets the Arterial Road (woodford Avenue i think).

Switch it to auto, you should hear a click and the engine note change as the revs pick up to take the compresser load as the compresser comes in. Open the bonnet and feel the little radiator (condenser) in front of the main radiator. It should warm up really fast. Look at the little sight glass over on the RHS towards the back of the engine bay. You should see liquid or bubbles in there. If the condenser is cool or no liquid or bubbles then the gas is at too low a pressure as it leaks over the years. Less than 30psi and the system locks out the compresser. The normal pressure is something like 300psi+.

Mine was down to 35psi when I got it purged of R12 and refilled with R416 recommended as better than R419 416 whatever as it is closer to the properties of R12 plus and new synth compresser lub.

If you are going to get your A/C re gassed have it pressure tested first. chances are that you've got a leak, probably from the condensor, the weakest part of the system, in which case the coolant will simply run out again. The test is £40ish, i think - and all air con specialists can do it.

Thanks for all the info guys!

OK, I switched the air con to auto, and hear the click and revs rise. I felt the little radiator at the front of the car and it got pretty damn hot.

BUT, I couldn't find the sight glass. Does the test above prove it just needs re-gassing?
