hey guys,

my girlfriends got a 98 1.6 corsa. she was told the EGR valve was knakered, so last weekend i blanked it off,now the check engine light is on all the time, to be expected.

it idles like a dog... very rough, about 2000 ish, also it revs itself randomly, like the throttle sticks, and it revs up to 4000rpm. the engine seems very erratic and is very dangerous imo, i NEED to fix it tomoro, but i dont know where to start!

any ideas?

thanks guys

I know it seems obvious but the egr is still plugged in? Check all the connectors and vacuum hoses etc aswell. Hth

i didnt see a vac line going too it? just an electronic connector, and i made a proper plate, with gasket sealer, high temp.

and i took the upper plenum off to give room, which i resealed with gasket sealer, and also fixed blow in the exhaust. does seem relevent to a vac leak doesnt it, but i didnt see any pipe goin to it, or even a redundent pipe fitting on it, was just electronic. i mite run it and have a listen for leaks i gues?

thanks for all your help guys

Sam

She's not mate, she's with me

Did you completely remove the egr valve? Just looked it up, and doesn't seem to run off vacuum, jut a solenoid, but if ou did remove it, have you tried just plugging the connector bag on the egr valve, see if it makes any difference?

That's why I said in my original post about it still being connected. It will throw eml if not plugged in. You just have to have it connected even if it's tucked up out the way somewhere. Hopefully that should sort most of the problem for you, but should definately turn the light off. If it still idles rough then check all the pipes thoroughly as vauxhall are good at hiding stuff so you can't see it! (been there and had the headache!! :D)

Hope you've got it sorted anyway mate
