Has anyone else noticed there are 2 types of oem bumpers.

you know where the bumper joins the wheel arch. you have the line that goes along the arch then onto the bumper. well some are really flared and some not much so.

Mine are the smoothed type and hollandrob81 zed was the flared type??

I will see if i can find some pics.

Don't know what i'm looking at...

but i do know that my car doesn't have rear toe eyes.

Been chopped off then lol!!!

Look at the line of the wheel arch follow it along then onto the bumper. you will see one is flared outwards(top pick) and one is smooth

I think i know why lol!!

Noticed before...but always just presumed it was lighting/angle of pics....

Looking at pics of mine - Its Flared (93 Slicktop)

I cant tell with my old 92 TT - the black paint hides it in pics.

What year is yours and what year is hollandrob91's ?

100% sure there is a difference and its not just the pics ?

lwb and swb?

Nope

I thought it was just me, Ive noticed for a while now but was unsure untill i saw robs the other day

Never seen one like that, are you sure its not justr for the ones with the little red lights either side of the liocense plate, which i think are the uk new?

I think I see what you mean Dave.....

....there is a slight "ridge" in the pic you say has the flared type. Could it be the difference between UK spec and J-spec rear ends - after all the UK spec (and US spec TT) came with 245 wide rear tyres? So perhaps cars in those markets had the extra "flare" to fully cover the wider tyres.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Robs is a 91 J plate. Well i thought it was a uk spec thing but obviously not now. I think the flare is the rarer of the 2.

Mine is also 93 j spec and smooth.

red lights (reflectors) is Jap Import and U.S spec.

Thats what i thought. But Daves is a jspec SWB? Also yours only looks to be about half way. so differant again??

But maybe that's just it Dave.....

...the SWB could have the extra flare as the US spec TT is an SWB only; whereas all EU spec cars were LWB TTs....

...so Nissan could have made the flared bumper for the EU market cars; plus all SWB cars (since they were made in smaller numbers), leaving the J-spec LWB cars having the "non-flared" bumper....

....Just a thought - else it could just beslight differences in the molding of the bumpers??

Yeah I know what your saying but the white one at the top is a swb with no flare

I see what your saying Richard..but the offset on stock wheels are so weak that they sit way inside the arch/bumper that the flare would not be needed. Plus im not so sure its an actual outward flare, rather than juts a seam line for design purposes ?

Very true re the wheels mate; my theory was just a wild stab in the dark..... :whistling:

And I can't say I ever noticed this before - so it's all Car Mad's fault for starting the thread in the first place.....
