ok, in an effort to make sure I actually use the car, and because I've always wanted to do it, I've signed myself up for this year's TimeAttack. I'll be in Club RWD class, and I imagine against some very stiff competition from what i can see from previous years.

Never done anything like this before, just a couple of track days, so it's going to be a huge learning curve :crying:

Dates are below, and if you can make it then please come along and say hi, and if you're unlucky I'll rope you in to help too!

I'll keep this thread updated with progress

Wish me luck!

So, time for updates.

First off - a huge thanks to Jimmer, who in less than 2 weeks, removed a broken engine, stripped all parts off it, and fitted them all to a new short block delivered from Z1. Also identified damage to my heads & cams, and that my turbo's sounded a bit dry but no play in them.

After borrowing some parts from other members due to short time frames, most notibly my old heads & cams that I'd sold to Mickey on here, car was up and running again earlier this week. John Dixon also helped double checking ECU timing.

I cannot say enough to pass on my thanks to both Jimmer and the other members who helped out at this point.

Drive back from Bristol to Brighton was good, lost boost about half way but put that down to a boost pipe popping off.

I'd even taken a quick snap of my new brakes (couldn't fit as the wheels wouldn't clear!!) and put most of the stickers on.

Here's my little boy helping me move the car on Friday morning to load on a trailer, the new brakes and all loaded up ready to go to Cadwell

Blimey Cadwell is a long drive from Brighton, Knockhill next month is going to be a killer!

Anyway, after staying in a local B&B, got to a very muddy circuit the next morning, and spent most of it running around trying to get unloaded, getting past scruteneering, signing on, MSA license, getting changed!! and going straight into the first practise session. It was wet & greasy and my first time at cadwell but good fun nonetheless.

Spent 20mins going round, car was smoking and no boost :( I was happy that my cornering speeds were good but no power so spent most of my time keeping out the way...

Spent the rest of the morning going over the all the piping, getting wet in the rain and hail. No missing pipes found and with the smoke concluded that at least on of my turbo's have given up the ghost. The plan was to send them away for inspection after cadwell, but clearly they didn't want to last that long. Didn't see much point doing any of the other sessions as I'd just be a rolling hazard and didn't want to risk damaging the car

All in all, glad I went, proved to be an expensive weekend for one session(!) however learnt an awful lot about how the TA days are run and how woefully under prepared I was.

Given the distance, I packed up early afternooon and started the drive home, called Jimmer and he kindly agreed to receive the car late on Saturday night so he can sort the next things out. Roll on Knockhill in June !

never mind James - at least you have the balls to go for it! :D Good luck next round :)

White one = Bob genie - he did well, check the other post by Slick Pete

Blimey what a hectic schedule, sorry to hear about your engine/turbo trouble though after all your hard work leading up to the event.

Glad I'm taking my rebuild to Jimmer in June

Gutted to hear the news James, onwards and upwards to the next event!

Dont be so hard on yourself.

Yes you were under prepared, but not woefully so. But Bob n me were as well and we had plenty of time to prepare.

Likewise we learnt a huge amount on the day. And what you didnt catch up with I fill fill you in on when you get back from holiday..

As Paul C has already said you have had the courage to get out there and do it. Nobody said it was going to be easy and there are no on line user manuals to tell you in advance how/what to do.

we found it equally difficult, and thats with double the man power you had available.

Just keep in mind the fact that virtually nobody on this forum has ever used their car for any type of serious motorsport..

Now where did you put that Nissan jack when we needed it??:whistling:

Talk to you soon.

back from holiday yesterday and straight back to working on the car. Been keeping in touch with Jimmer while I was away and yes, 1 turbo managed to snap so no wonder I wasn't getting any boost.

Anyway, new turbo's didn't quite fit so I've driven 530miles today to collect turbo, drive to Turbo Engineers, supervise adjustments, return turbo to Jimmer and then drive home. Good news is that it fits now!

bloody hell thats some dedication lol!!!

Just found out my mate rick with his evo7 is going to be at the anglesea one and ive managed to hitch a ride. its 742hp cannot wait he he hope you can make it to that one :)

Car is running again!

Fantastic work from Jimmer, working weekends and evening to get car back to me asap. I'll be collecting the car at the weekend, and a quick mapping session next week before the next round on June 10th.

Next challenge, test fitted my new brake setup and need an extra 10mm spacing front and rear to clear the calipers. I had a Ksport 355mm kit all round so shows how much bigger these are

Cant wait to see this fire round knockhill, It's my local track so will defo be there. Might even bring the 300 with me.

Anybody up there ,yes thats you Mikey, get down there,i would go but im away in france and the race is the day after i return so i will be recovering from serious alcohol consumption,if anybodies wondering if this car is a serious contender i know it is.James needs our support as hes invested lots of time and lots of money to get this car to this level.Having drove and worked on it i can say its a winner for sure.

as much as i want to go see you at the next one its still a 5 hour drive from me. bit too far. ill wait for a closer one. lol

bit late for that you just missed cadwell lol

Car is back in rude health, picked it up today and drove it back to brighton. Excellent work by Jimmer as always, even saw Richard Smith on the M4 :)

I've been here a year and this is the first time it's come to down to stay as I've finally found a garage for it! Given the garage is a few streets away from me, and having seen a few heavily modified cars being stolen over the last year in this country, ranging from blatent drive offs at events to lifting them up off driveways, I've decided to put a tracker on it for piece of mind.

May get a few odd things done in the week, and have a mapping session on Friday - fingers crossed

o/t - I don't suppose you still have the K Sports and want to sell them by any chance?

I do indeed, they're still on till after the next event as spacers didn't arrive in time, but hope to get the Alcon's fitted in the next few weeks. Can take you for a spin with kports still on if you want to see them in action
